Logged Dive #180 – DMITing An OW Class At Veteran’s Park

    Veteran’s Park, Redondo Beach, CA

Dove with Instructor John’s Open Water student Jack* as part of my Dive Master Class.

    In With: 3100 psi
    Out With: 2000 psi
    Max depth: 50 feet
    Waves: 1-3 feet, ankle breakers
    Visibility: 5-8 feet
Water Temperature: 58 degrees Fahrenheit – I think
    Total Bottom Time: 31 minutes
    *Student names have been changed.

General Custer only had 1000 psi in his second tank; the shop screwed up and didn’t fill it.

Jack kept sucking up water whenever he would try and use his snorkel.

He attributed the facts to, “I just don’t know how to use a snorkel.”

John examined his setup; he had his snorkel on wrong.

Jack and I descended down to 15 or 20 feet; he followed me down and over the shelf.

We swam at 60 feet going North towards the pier.

Jack was to my left, then out of the corner of my eye, Jack bolted upwards, then swam to my right side.

I looked at him, he gave me the “OK” sign.

We trolled around for 20 minutes and then headed in.

Sand dollars, small crabs, star fish – the Redondo usual.

We came ashore, just off the stairs, without incident.

Jack and General Custer both graduated the Open Water class today.

Ed met me after class; we went to Quality Seafood at the pier for some beer and lunch.
