Logged Dive #131 – Long Point and Red Tide!
Long Point, CA
(aka The Old Marineland)
Dove with Nick, well, sort of solo
In With: 3000 psi
Out With: 2500 psi
Max depth: 25 feet or so
Waves: 1-3 feet
Visibility: Shitty, 0-2 feet
Water Temperature: Cool
Total Bottom Time: About ten minutes
Nick chickened out of going river rafting yesterday.
When he found out that he was the third of three people going and the minimum number of people needed was three, he declined knowing that the trip depended on him not backing out once there – I just had to throw that in.
Tim, Reyna and the guys from Pacific Wilderness were in the parking lot.
The cove seemed calm, the Point a little rough.
It was a little surgy when entering the cove about 9:40 AM.
Nick seemed a little concerned, but he’s been in Cleveland and is getting fat.
I submerged to 25 feet and hit the bottom before seeing it.
Nick turned back due to the horrible visibility.
Hungry and totting my spear gun, I decided to go under again for another try.
I was under for an additional five minutes before calling turning back myself.
Visibility made continuing this dive pointless.
It’s “red tide” again.
I heard from other divers that, depending on where you go, the visibility could be a good as five feet!
What a waste of time today!
