Logged Dive #46 White Point, San Pedro, CA

    White Point, San Pedro, CA
    Dove with Nick

This is a new dive spot for me.

I met Nick on the street and we took his truck down the steep driveway.

    It was about 9:30 AM.

We entered the water through a cove that’s protected from the large waves.

High tide was at 8:30 AM.

The rocks were sharp and the walk was slightly tough.

We swam to the first kelp bed and submerged.

The environment looks a lot like Shaw’s Cove in Laguna Beach (See Dive #31) , but there seems to be more life.

There doesn’t seem to be a lot of “dead spots” like Long Point.

There was always something to see – kelp, sea urchins and starfish.

Somewhere around here are sulfur springs.

The whole place sort of smells like sewage.

We surfaced a couple of times to get our bearings.

We lost the kelp bed first and the second time we came in further towards the shore than we thought.

The hunting seems to be good here.

Nick and I were purely observers.

I didn’t hunt, he didn’t bring his camera.

We were under water about 50 minutes total.

Excellent dive, we will definitely be coming back.

    In with: 2,900 psi
    Out with: 500 psi
    Max depth: 35 minutes
    Waves: 1-3 feet/choppy
    Visibility: 20 feet/a bit soupy
Water temperature: Cool. 60 degrees F, I guess

Logged Dive #45 Long Point, RPV, CA

    Long Point, CA
    (aka The Old Marineland)

    Dove with Nick

Diving conditions were horrible last weekend.

I didn’t even go — well, I went to Long Point and Redondo Beach, but the waves were horrendous.

It was the PV marathon, so the traffic sucked going to Long Point.

Nick and Robert were suppose to show up.

    They didn’t.

At 08:40 AM I entered the water and swam about 50 yards.

I saw Nick walking down – I mean the guy is almost seven feet tall, so I was thinking it had to have been Nick.

He ran up after I told him I would wait.

At about 09:10 AM we both went out to the second kelp bed.

It was very choppy, but the swells were manageable.

We swam to the second kelp bed and hunted.

The visibility was better than I expected, 15 feet and clear.

I entered up shooting one sheephead, and using a lot of air doing it.

For some reason, there is a dead tree in the water.

We exited on our traditional spot.

The waves had calmed down while we were under; it was high tide.

    In with: 2800 psi
    Out with: 200 psi
    Maximum depth: 40+ feet
    Waves: 1-3 feet and choppy
    Visibility: 15 feet and clear
    Water temperature: Warmer than before
The “Dive and Surf” club was diving there, too.
