Another Sunday… Another Dive… and More News

While getting air on Saturday at New England Divers, I found out that Steve, the old manager of American Diving, died recently.

    Me, Lauri and Steve.
Me, Laurie and Steve – 2006

Steve goes back to the very first times that I have ever dove – I bought my original equipment from him.

I left pretty early today and expected to get to Terranea Resort about 7:45 AM.

However, the 405 on ramps at Long Beach Blvd. and Pacific Avenue were both closed; I had to back track and get on at Orange Ave.

Then, the transition ramp to the 710 South was closed, so I had to take the 110 South.

After all the last minute change of courses, I ended up showing up at 8:15, only to find everyone already geared up and ready to go.

I told them not to wait for me, and they had no problem with that.

Not feeling rushed, I took my time gearing up.

I decided to do a nice leisurely dive off the Cove to check out 120 reef and then maybe the Garden.

    I made an easy entrance.

    Me off of the Cove.
    Me off the cove.

    Vis looked to be good!
    Vis looked to be good!

    I submerged.

    Logged SCUBA Dive #499

    Solo Diving

The Cove, Terranea Resort, Rancho Palos Verdes, CA, USA

    In With: 3000 psi
    Out With: 1100 psi
    Max depth: 40 feet
    Waves: Pretty flat
Visibility: 15 feet, less in some places
    Water Temperature: 69 degrees
    Air Temperature: 74 degrees, overcast
    Total Bottom Time: 40 minutes

I submerged just outside the rocky finger off of Pigeon Shit Cave and headed to 120 reef.

Visibility wasn’t as good as I expected, but it was still very enjoyable.

    Going through the kelp.

I made my way through the kelp forest.

    Going through the kelp.

    Fish off of Terranea Resort

It’s nice to see the fish coming back in abundance – the marine preserve is working out, in my opinion.

I headed back after 25 minutes and swam to the Garden on the other side of the Cove.

    Pier remnants
Remnants of the old Marineland Pier.

    A school of fish
    Another school of fish.

I headed in as the others, who went off the Point, were exiting; everyone made it out easily.

Debriefing was a diver’s reunion – Joe R., Tony from Dive N Surf and even the long gone BlueSteel graced us with their attendance.

Of course, a lot of the regulars were there too – Reverend Al, Nice Bob and Ben.

    Kenneth From Divevets
Kenneth from Divevets even showed up for the debrief.

The ghetto grill and the group
We cooked sausages on the ghetto grill as we drank beer, to all the snooty looks of the rich people trying to find a free parking spot.

We caught up on all the news since conditions have sucked for the past few months.

Apparently, Divevets has long ago peaked, and since they threw everyone off the message board, nobody goes there anymore.

The website administrator bailed state, others quit diving, others have developed health problems and still others have died.

I think I will just enjoy the times as they occur… nothing lasts forever, even though I have been dumb enough to think they will.

    Debriefing

I plan to be back next weekend; Kenneth said he would bring his drone to document our entrance off the Point.

Sunday Diving Report And Other Stuff

I am really low on cash; lobster season may not happen for me, so you may not want to hang out here for lobster reports.

    Sorry…

My investments with my Nigerian business partners has not paid off, and it’s been quite some time since I was due my first dividend cash payment.

Regardless, let’s go on to a brighter subject before I write about today’s dive…

UPDATE: This dog was adopted Sunday, October 29th and went to a new home!

Wonderful doggie! Does this cute, non-aggressive dog deserve death, or a nice home?

Think about this, because I will get back to you on this subject.

    I needed to dive.

This was a fucked up 24 hours- A terrorist attack in Paris, France has killed 148 people.

Fuck ISIS, so I won’t mention the tragedy of Ronda Rousey losing to what’s her name.

My Duster has a dead battery and won’t start, so I siphoned the gas out of it and poured it into my truck.

I made my way to Terranea Resort for my usual Sunday Services dive.

I actually showed up early – 7:30 AM; the Sun coming up early really helps.

I went down to check conditions.

    The calm cove.

The Point was a little iffy, but the Cove was manageable.

But, where the fuck was everyone?

I mean, I was the only diver there at 8:10 AM; I started to gear up.

8:20…8:30…8:40… I was ready, but no other diver had shown up.

    Well, that never stopped me.

    Fuck it, I’m going diving!

    I made an easy entrance.

    Visibility was great!
    Visibility looked great going out.

    Me!
    I am so macho!

I could not believe I was the only one here.

    Out With: 1200 psi
    Max depth: 42 feet

    Visibility: 25 feet plus
    Water Temperature: 67 degrees
    Air Temperature: 75 degrees

    Terranea Resort Reef.
Just letting my GoPro know that I’m OK

    OK, so the dive…

    Terranea Resort Reef.

    Terranea Resort Reef.

    Just me!
I had a great appreciation for what I was doing – I have some pen pals who are in prison, and I am so glad not to be there.

    Terranea Resort Reef.

    Terranea Resort Reef.

After 30 minutes or so, I decided to head back.

I made an easy exit and gave some advice to some divers from San Diego as to where to head.

    Debriefing alone.
    Debriefing alone…

    Debriefing alone.
I talked to myself… about how lonely I am and how crazy my ex was.

So, now on to a better subject:

    This dog needs a home!

The nicest dog in the world.

Some asshole abandoned this dog by roping him to a fence in an alley (Wardlow and North Marietta Court, Long Beach) tight enough to where he couldn’t even lay down on the hot pavement. No tags, no chip.

The dog is scared, but not aggressive at all. He is a good dog, but I am unable to adopt him because of my HOA agreement.

So, if you want a really cool dog, he needs a home. Contact is on the link.

And, I witnessed this first hand.

One of my six readers can have room for him?
