Logged Dive #41 The Old Marineland, CA

    Long Point, CA
    (aka The Old Marineland)

    Dove with Nick

Met Nick at 9:45 AM — he needed air, I bought a new pair of gloves.

We entered the water probably around 10:30 AM.

I exchanged numbers with “Robert” from Long Point – he expressed interest in going tomorrow.

We went to the same kelp bed as yesterday.

    I hunted, Nick just followed.

Surprisingly, the water was really cold, the air was warm.

Visibility sucked to hell – 10 feet and soupy.

I broke open several sea urchins over many of the reefs we traveled.

I only saw one sheephead and it was short.

We stayed under about 45 minutes.

At 1000 psi we started heading in; we came up right on target, very close to shore.

There was a swim suit model posing for a photographer on the rocks.

    What a welcome!

    In with: 2800 psi

    Max depth: 35 feet
    Waves: 2 feet
    Visibility: 10 feet and soupy
    Water temperature: 50 degrees F (Nick’s thermometer)
    Sort of low tide

Logged Dive #40 Long Point, CA

    Long Point, CA
    (aka The Old Marineland)

    Solo Diving

I arrived at Long Point around 9:30 AM — I had just gotten off of work to start a four day weekend.

    I wanted to start earlier.

    I used my regulator set-up.

It’s very cheap compared to Ed’s — I just got it back from having the first stage repaired.

The air was very hot and when I entered the water, so the water seemed very cold.

Other divers, about six of them, had entered the water about 30 minutes before me.

This was purely a sight seeing dive.

I hung out around the far kelp bed; broke open several sea urchins and fed the fish.

I saw a sheephead with part of its back ripped off.

I believe it was a wound from a spear?

I will definitely be careful not to spear shorts.

At about 1000 psi I started heading directly West to go it.

I surfaced too far West and over the rocks.

Definitely not the place to be.

I made it back to the same place place that I entered from.

A Fish and Game Warden was there when I surfaced.

    In with: 2800 psi
    Out with: 500 psi
    Max depth: 38 feet
    Waves: 2 feet
    Visibility: 10-15 feet / clear
    Water Temp: Cold
    Low tide
