Logged Dive #152 – Assisting With An OW Class

    Veteran’s Park, Redondo Beach, CA

Dove with Instructor John and his Basic Open Water Students Cheech, Lou (an older guy) and Bud (Lou’s nephew).*

    In With: 3000 psi
    Out With: 2000 psi
    Max depth: 40 feet
    Waves: 1-4 foot ankle breakers
    Visibility: 0-6 feet Red Tide!
    Water Temperature: Cool
    Total Bottom Time: 20 minutes
    *Student names have been changed.

Lou and Bud did their skin dives.

It was hard to read how comfortable they were in the water; they both seemed really tired.

    Visibility was shitty.

John had me dive with Cheech while he dealt with the other two.

Cheech and I went to the shelf, messed around slightly – Cheech picked up a spider crab.

We came across a GI Joe “action figure,” pants and shoe pile on the bottom.

When we surfaced, Bud flagged us down so he could come in; he had problems equalizing, so John had him wait on the surface for us.

We made it ashore with no problems.

Logged Dive #148 – Helping With an OW Class

    Casino Point, Catalina, CA

Dove with Instructor John and his Open Water student Cheech and his two advanced students.*

    In With: 3100 psi
    Out With: 1200 psi
    Max depth: 35-40 feet
Waves: 1 to 2 feet, insignificant
    Visibility: 55 feet
    Water Temperature: Cool
    Total Bottom Time: 40 minutes
    *Student names have been changed.

We had a 45 minutes surface interval between this dive and last dive.

This was the second SCUBA dive today for Cheech; a fun dive for the Advanced students.

We went to the barge and then back up again.

We saw a jelly fish that the advanced students decided to try and inflate with air.

Cheech decided to wonder off a few times, but kept around us, sometimes ahead.

We exited the stairs with no problem.

The Advanced students decided to continue on their own; Cheech went snorkeling.

I found a weight belt at the beginning of the dive and tied it to one of the buoys.

John retrieved it later and turned it in for air credits.
