Logged Dive #162 – Long Point Solo Diving

Long Point, Rancho Palos Verdes, CA
    (aka The Old Marineland)

    Solo Diving

    In With: 3000 psi
    Out With: 1000 psi
    Max depth: 40 feet
    Waves: 1-3 feet
    Visibility: 10 feet
Water Temperature: cool, but not cold
    Total Bottom Time: 55 minutes

I got down to Long Point about 8 AM.

They had just opened the gate and a bunch were already in the water; they must have geared up on the street.

I went off the cove and started South, going by what was left of the pier.

Seeing nothing more than a sandy bottom most of the time, I headed North East to more familiar grounds.

This was a shallow dive most of the way; an enjoyable excursion.

I got dive bombed by a seal a few times.

I made it out with no problems.

Logged Dive #161 – Long Point Sort Of Buddy Diving…

Long Point, Rancho Palos Verdes, CA
    (aka The Old Marineland)

Dove with Ed, well, sort of…

    In With: 2900 psi
    Out With: 700 psi
Max depth: 45 feet or so
    Waves: 1-3 feet
    Visibility: 15-20 feet
Water Temperature: cool, but not cold
    Total Bottom Time: 50 minutes

Ed is trying to get back in to diving; he has had a lot of stress running his bar, but he’s realizing that he will always have stress with that place he bought.

We made it down to the Cove about 8:40 AM.

Dennis, Al and the rest of the regulars were already in the water.

Nick came down to check out the conditions, but he wasn’t planning on diving because of back problems.

He would have reconsidered if he knew Ed was going to bring a dolly to carry his gear.

To me, Ed looked a little uncomfortable getting into the water.

We got out a few dozen yards past the surf zone and Ed said to me, “Go on, I’m just going to practice (diving) here.”

I stayed with him for a few minutes, but figuring he could handle himself, I went on my way.

I went East looking for lobsters, but ended up collecting about 10 Sea Urchins – Uni – that ended up having very little meat in them.

I came across a huge bat ray that was just sleeping on the bottom.

I made it out with no problems; Ed was already on shore.

The regulars were having a beer party when we got back; they’re a great bunch of people.
