Nick is going to Florida and needs a “refresher” dive.
So, calling on my Dive Mastering abilities, we went to “make sure” Nick’s equipment still works.
The usual amount of classes were there.
We entered directly out from the steps; I went out first.
There was some fairly large chop going out.
Nick lost a fin upon entry; a DM from a class was watching and retrieved it for him.
We swam out; the water was sort of cold.
Later it was revealed to me that it was 53 degrees Fahrenheit.
We submerged to 20 feet or so.
I fucked up and started to go towards the beach.
Nick did some weird hand signals that I couldn’t understand.
We surfaced and he asked where the shore was.
Ooops!
I have horrible navigation skills here sometimes and I wasn’t even narced!
We submerged again, went West and over the shelf.
It got colder.
The vis cleared to 10 feet or so.
We trolled and trolled over the barren landscape and trash.
I was getting cold.
We swam back up the shelf and towards shore to 15 feet.
We surfaced and walked in among some strong swells.
The DM that was watching before, was watching us exit.
Nick thanked him; I should have, but I’ll blame it on my unsocial behavior.
I introduced Nick to Shanon who was there working on her Dive Master.
