Logged Dive #181 – More DMITing – Another Class At Vet’s

    Veteran’s Park, Redondo Beach, CA

Dove with Instructor John, his friend Jim, and John’s Open Water students* Tom and Jerry as part of my Dive Master course.

    In With: 3000 psi
    Out With: 1900 psi
    Max depth: 60 feet
    Waves: 1-2 feet
    Visibility: 5-10 feet
Water Temperature: 61 degrees to 57 degrees Fahrenheit at depth
    Total Bottom Time: 30 minutes
    *Student names have been changed.

These two students were several years older than me – at least I hope so because they looked old!

They had already been to Catalina, so this was their second set of dives.

The waves were so calm, I walked out and put my fins on.

John asked me if I thought one of his students was wearing a hood that was too tight; he was looking a bit cyanotic – purple.

I submerged; the rest followed with no problem.

John did the basic checkout skills with Tom and Jerry while Jim and I watched.

We then followed John down the shelf and back up and out with no problems.

I did lose sight of one of his students because of bad visibility towards shore, but he surfaced safely about 15 yards away from us as we were coming ashore.

The student that had a tight hood took it off – the color came back to his face.
