Logged Dive #126 – Dove With Instructor John And A Student
Veteran’s Park
Redondo Beach, CA
Dove with Instructor John and his private Open Water student.
In With: 2800 psi
Out With: 1900 psi
Max depth: 65 feet
Waves: 1-3 feet
Visibility: 10 feet over the shelf
Water Temperature: Pretty F’ing cold over the shelf; I think john said it was 55 degrees Fahrenheit
Total Bottom Time: 20 minutes
This was the student’s first time diving in the ocean.
Apparently, he is a surfer and very comfortable in the water.
We did the usual “walk out and feel the bottom” and “skin dive” routines before dawning our SCUBA gear.
We submerged about 9:15 AM and went down to 60 feet – something that John usually doesn’t do on first dives.
However, the student was really comfortable in the water and the visibility sucked until we went over the shelf.
Out with no problem.
The student walked ashore, not crawled; that’s very impressive for a first dive!
