Logged Dive #112, Long Point, Palos Verdes, CA

Long Point, Rancho Palos Verdes, CA
    (aka The Old Marineland)

Solo Diving with a lot of Sandeaters in the water

    In With: 3400 psi
    Out With: 1800 psi
    Max depth: 40 feet
    Waves: 1-2 feet; pretty calm
Visibility: 5-8 feet – It sucked!
    Water Temperature: I was cold!
    Total Bottom Time: 30 minutes

The Sandeaters and apparently the Dive and Surf groups were at Long Point.

    Surprisingly, Melvin P. wasn’t there.

I went in about 9 AM off of the Cove – pebble beach as Melvin calls it.

I went to where the second kelp bed was, and ran across the abandoned lobster trap that someone keeps baiting (see Dive #92 ).

Someone had opened the trap door, but I’m glad because it’s not lobster season.

Visibility sucked; 5-8 feet at best.

I ran across a few other divers.

It was cold and there wasn’t much to see because of the poor visibility.

    I cut the dive short.

I met “Matt” who insisted on helping me out of the water by taking my fins – insisting to the point of him almost having a panic attack.

Matt said that he cancelled his dive because his rig free flowed.

He’s looking for dive buddies; but having talked to him, he seems very nervous and hasn’t dove for several years.

I recommended a refresher course and gave him Instructor John’s business card.

I also gave his “dive buddy” Phillip, Instructor John’s business card.

Phillip got certified 20 years ago and he had lost his card.

Apparently, Matt was to go SCUBA diving and his “buddy” Phillip was to free dive with him.

A lot of people were there!

I hope Mr. Trump will continue to allow access to this great place!
