Logged Dive #100 – And I’m Still Alive!

Long Point, Rancho Palos Verdes, CA
    (aka Long Point)

Dove off the Point with Melvin P. and Andy from the Sandeaters.

    In With: 3000 psi
    Out With: 400 psi
    Max depth: 46 feet
    Waves: 1-2 feet, insignificant
    Visibility: 10-15 feet
    Water Temperature: 54 degrees
    Total Bottom Time: 50 minutes

I got to Long Point about 8:30 AM and was planning to solo dive to check on the lobster trap and hopefully catch the scoundrel that’s been baiting it.

I pulled between two cars – the only other cars in the parking lot.

Melvin P. ( see dive #48 ) came over and welcomed me.

“I’m glad you could join us today,” Melvin said.

    The other guy was “Andy.”

    It was around 9:20 AM.

We quickly geared up and entered off The Point – Melvin, me and then Andy.

The entrance was where John H and I entered last time.

    The water was cold.

I saw four lobsters during the whole trip.

I caught a short one, the big ones got away.

It was a nice, slow, take a look at the scenery type of dive.

The Point is very entertaining as far as interesting things to see – kelp, reefs, rocks, and man made encrusted junk that is home for many creatures.

These guys go through air like Instructor John – SLOW!

We slowly made it back to the cove; or “Pebble Beach” as Melvin calls it.

I was looking for “Friendship Rock.”

The whole cove has been rearranged by weeks of solid rain.

“Friendship Rock” now has a few friends.

We all made it to shore with no problems.

Melvin and Andy seem to be experienced rock divers.
