Logged Dive #163 – Helping With An OpenWater Class – Redondo Beach

    Veteran’s Park, Redondo Beach, CA

Dove With Instructor John, his friend Jim and John’s Open Water Students Farrah and Burt.*

    In With: 3000 psi
    Out With: 2000 psi
    Max depth: 60 feet
    Waves: 0, very calm.
Visibility: 15 feet, clear. But vis started to suck down the canyon.
    Water Temperature: cool
    Total Bottom Time: 24 minutes

    * Student’s names have been changed.

Burt’s woman gave up after the initial skin dive – this was their first time in the ocean; she did not do this dive.

I took up the back as usual; vis was great, 15 feet and very clear.

We got down to 60 feet; Burt has no fear.

He was taking his regulator out of his mouth and blowing “bubble rings.”

Farrah was sort of tired but managed to keep up with us.

Same old sights; nothing to report.

There were absolutely no waves breaking on shore at all.

Logged Dive #162 – Long Point Solo Diving

Long Point, Rancho Palos Verdes, CA
    (aka The Old Marineland)

    Solo Diving

    In With: 3000 psi
    Out With: 1000 psi
    Max depth: 40 feet
    Waves: 1-3 feet
    Visibility: 10 feet
Water Temperature: cool, but not cold
    Total Bottom Time: 55 minutes

I got down to Long Point about 8 AM.

They had just opened the gate and a bunch were already in the water; they must have geared up on the street.

I went off the cove and started South, going by what was left of the pier.

Seeing nothing more than a sandy bottom most of the time, I headed North East to more familiar grounds.

This was a shallow dive most of the way; an enjoyable excursion.

I got dive bombed by a seal a few times.

I made it out with no problems.
