{"id":945,"date":"2006-06-17T23:29:51","date_gmt":"2006-06-18T06:29:51","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/psychosolodiver.com\/?p=945"},"modified":"2008-01-28T19:25:14","modified_gmt":"2008-01-29T02:25:14","slug":"rafting-the-kern-river-june-17-2006","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/psychosolodiver.com\/?p=945","title":{"rendered":"Rafting The Kern River &#8211; June 17, 2006"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Another day trip up to the Kern River for some rafting!<\/p>\n<p>This trip was structured and run just like <a href=\"http:\/\/psychosolodiver.com\/index.php?p=863\"> our last trip from last month<\/a>, but with a new batch of people from John\u2019s work.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/psychosolodiver.com\/wp-content\/4b.jpg\" alt=\"Joseph\u2019s $300 Van.\" \/><\/p>\n<p>We took Joseph\u2019s $300 van up to the river and back.<\/p>\n<p>John told us about the last trip to the Kern he had;  that trip I was not able to make:<\/p>\n<p>It was John, Joseph and three or four rafting newbies \u2013 from where I don\u2019t know.<\/p>\n<p>But anyway, apparently this new batch of rafters let John and Joseph do all the work.<\/p>\n<p>One guy was apparently so nervous he prayed before and after his turn down the river and ended up locking the keys in the chase vehicle.<\/p>\n<p>I\u2019m glad I missed that trip!<\/p>\n<p>This trip was great!<\/p>\n<p>The group from John\u2019s work numbered, I would say, about ten people.<\/p>\n<p>Instructor Ed came along with us, too.<\/p>\n<p>While we were taking turns making the run down the section of river, John&#8217;s coworkers were barbecuing a gourmet Mexican meal \u2013 carne asada, chicken, tortillas.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/psychosolodiver.com\/wp-content\/1b.jpg\" alt=\"Another raft launches towards the Kern\u2019s rapids.\" \/><\/p>\n<p>Joseph and I took turns driving the chase vehicle to the launching trail and back down river to our picnic area.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/psychosolodiver.com\/wp-content\/kern1.jpg\" alt=\"Shooting the rapids on the Kern River.\" \/><\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/psychosolodiver.com\/wp-content\/kern2.jpg\" alt=\"Shooting the rapids on the Kern River.\" \/><\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/psychosolodiver.com\/wp-content\/kern32.jpg\" alt=\"Made it through!\" \/><\/p>\n<p>I lost track, but I think we maybe made close to ten runs down the river; I made at least four of them.<\/p>\n<p>At the end of the day, we packed up and took some group shots&#8230;<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/psychosolodiver.com\/wp-content\/2b.jpg\" alt=\"Our group shot for the day.\" \/><\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/psychosolodiver.com\/wp-content\/3b.jpg\" alt=\"Another group shot.\" \/><\/p>\n<p>Ed and I were warned about Joseph\u2019s $300 van;  the fact that the thing doesn\u2019t have air conditioning didn\u2019t bother anybody since we\u2019re all macho.<\/p>\n<p>However, it wasn\u2019t explained to me that when the headlights are turned on, the seat belt buzzer constantly rings.<\/p>\n<p>Joseph blames it on a short circuit that he can\u2019t find; but that\u2019s what we listened to after dark, all the way back \u2013 beep, beep, beep, beep\u2026<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Another day trip up to the Kern River for some rafting!
