Now’s the time to go on the Island Diver with the Divevets and check out their hunting spots.<\/p>\n
The boat was filled with seven divers and Captain Alec.<\/p>\n
We took the short trip over to their secret spot and dropped anchor in about 50 feet.<\/p>\n
The divers marveled at my combination of ancient, old and cheap equipment.<\/p>\n
Bob told me, “If this stuff falls apart underwater, it’s because it’s cheap.”<\/p>\n
“Yeah, I know.”<\/p>\n
I was second or third off the boat.<\/p>\n
Dan advised me to “go towards shore.”<\/p>\n
I submerged and hit bottom at about 50 feet.<\/p>\n
I trolled for a little bit and within a couple of minutes I had grabbed a nice sized lobster.<\/p>\n
I never quite headed towards shore as Dan had suggested.<\/p>\n
I sort of got tangled and thrown off course weaving through and freeing myself in the thick kelp.<\/p>\n
I never got shallower than 35 feet.<\/p>\n
I never saw another lobster during this dive.<\/p>\n
I surfaced to get my bearings.<\/p>\n
I was about 100 yards from the boat and down to 600 psi.<\/p>\n
I swam shallow, just beneath the kelp almost all the way to the boat.<\/p>\n
I was the first one back.<\/p>\n
A new diver, Rafael, was the second one back.<\/p>\n
He had run out of air and made it back to the boat empty handed.<\/p>\n
Apparently, he didn’t realize how much air you can go through hunting for bugs.<\/p>\n
