{"id":646,"date":"2007-07-15T16:55:02","date_gmt":"2007-07-15T23:55:02","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/psychosolodiver.com\/?p=646"},"modified":"2008-02-16T17:19:18","modified_gmt":"2008-02-17T00:19:18","slug":"logged-dive-243-pt-vicente-wall-from-the-island-diver","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/psychosolodiver.com\/?p=646","title":{"rendered":"Logged Dive #243 &#8211; Pt Vicente Wall From The Island Diver"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Dive On the Point Vicente Wall off the Island Diver<br \/>\nPalos Verdes Peninsula, CA<\/p>\n<p>In With: 3000 psi<br \/>\nOut With: 2200 psi<br \/>\nMax depth: About 40 feet<br \/>\nWaves: choppy<br \/>\nVisibility: 10-15 feet<br \/>\nWater Temperature: 55 degrees<br \/>\nTotal Bottom Time: 18 minutes<br \/>\nNotable Event: Distress Call From Another Boat<\/p>\n<p>Dove with Juan Twenty, Mirek and others.<\/p>\n<p>Should this be considered a dive?<\/p>\n<p>We all had made it back on board, but due to no current, nobody saw the wall.<\/p>\n<p>So the plan was to move to the small rock island off of the Point Vicente Lighthouse and go down for &#8220;a few minutes&#8221; to check it out.<\/p>\n<p>Well, only a few minutes&#8230; I mean really, I just got out of the water so I didn&#8217;t really have a surface interval.<\/p>\n<p>I mentioned to Juan Twenty that I only had 700 psi left in my tank.<\/p>\n<p>People were concerned, so I switched tanks and proudly  exclaimed, &#8220;I&#8217;ve never run out of air and don&#8217;t intend on doing it today.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>Laila seemed relieved.<\/p>\n<p>We jumped over, swam towards the rocks and submerged.<\/p>\n<p>I followed Juan, but pretty much we went as a group before breaking up in to two groups.<\/p>\n<p>Juan, Mirek and me looked around the wall.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/psychosolodiver.com\/wp-content\/426.jpg\" alt=\"Just me being macho.\" \/><\/p>\n<p><em>Photo By Juan Twenty<\/em><\/p>\n<p>Thousands of muscle shells littered the base of the wall.<\/p>\n<p>There was a sense that &#8220;not too many people have dove here.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>Sea urchins, fish, a few octopuses &#8211; and then we came across a plaque that stated something along the lines of:<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;The Artist Of The Deep Blue&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;_en Wayne Redding&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;1961-1998&#8221;<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/psychosolodiver.com\/wp-content\/622.jpg\" alt=\"Artist Of The Deep Blue\" \/><\/p>\n<p><em>Photo By Juan Twenty<\/em><\/p>\n<p>An internet search revealed nothing.<\/p>\n<p>We swam toward the direction of the boat and surfaced fairly close to it.<\/p>\n<p>The others who broke off from our group were shortly behind.<\/p>\n<p>I&#8217;m glad that I did switch tanks.<\/p>\n<p>I would have been really rushed for time.<\/p>\n<p>Once on board, we heard a distress call coming in over the emergency radio channel.<\/p>\n<p>With my recollection, along with a post on divevets.com from Max Bottomtime, here is a close transcription of the call:<\/p>\n<p>RADIO: We need immediate assistance!!!!<\/p>\n<p>Coast Guard: Were you the people yelling mayday a few minutes ago?<\/p>\n<p>RADIO: Yes!! We have three people down!  Three people down!<\/p>\n<p>Coast Guard: What is your location?<\/p>\n<p>RADIO: We are at Rocky Point near the white lighthouse.<\/p>\n<p>Coast Guard: What are your GPS coordinates?<\/p>\n<p>RADIO: We are between Long Beach and Marina Del Rey at the breakwater near the white lighthouse!!!!  Please help us! This is an emergency!!!<\/p>\n<p>Coast Guard: Which break water?<\/p>\n<p>RADIO: The Long Beach Break water!!!!<\/p>\n<p>Coast Guard: What is the nature of your emergency?<\/p>\n<p>RADIO:  Our anchor is stuck and we have three people down! Three People Down!!!!!<\/p>\n<p>Coast Guard: What is the specific emergency?<\/p>\n<p>RADIO: They are sea sick and barfing all over my boat!
