{"id":631,"date":"2007-05-13T09:37:16","date_gmt":"2007-05-13T16:37:16","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/psychosolodiver.com\/?p=631"},"modified":"2008-02-03T11:47:35","modified_gmt":"2008-02-03T18:47:35","slug":"logged-dive-229-mothers-day-solo-dive-and-barbecue-party","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/psychosolodiver.com\/?p=631","title":{"rendered":"Logged Dive #229 &#8211;  Mother&#8217;s Day Dive And Barbecue Party!"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Mother&#8217;s Day<\/p>\n<p>Long Point, Rancho Palos Verdes, CA<br \/>\n(aka The Old Marineland)<\/p>\n<p>Dove with Ron T.<\/p>\n<p>In With: 2700 psi<br \/>\nOut With: 600 psi<br \/>\nMax depth: 40 feet<br \/>\nWaves:  2-3 foot swells<br \/>\nVisibility: 10-15 feet in areas<br \/>\nWater Temperature: Cool, sort of cold<br \/>\nTotal Bottom Time: 45 minutes<\/p>\n<p>It&#8217;s Mother&#8217;s Day &#8211; my Dad liked the last Barbecue party here so much, he convinced my mother to join us down at Long Point.<\/p>\n<p>Instructor Ed and my brother Paul came down also.<\/p>\n<p>I had to do some dashing around a bit, so I ended up being 30 minutes late to meet Ron.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/psychosolodiver.com\/wp-content\/1tyty.jpg\" alt=\"Ron and Me, ready for diving.\" \/><\/p>\n<p>We geared up and started the walk down around 9:00 AM.<\/p>\n<p>Ed had his video camera and started on our beer early.<\/p>\n<p>I went out first, Ron followed.<\/p>\n<p>It was sort of high tide.<\/p>\n<p>Outside of the surf zone, Ron rested.<\/p>\n<p>He complained that his suit was too tight to breathe in; he just needed to rest.<\/p>\n<p>He had me turn his air on; I must be a shitty DM if I didn&#8217;t catch that, but he&#8217;s a DM, too!<\/p>\n<p>We swam to the rocks and submerged.<\/p>\n<p>The vis seemed better towards shore.<\/p>\n<p>We headed for 120 reef.<\/p>\n<p>I followed Ron for the first half of the dive.<\/p>\n<p>We took it slow, viewing all the life in the crevices.<\/p>\n<p>Ron pointed out a nice scallop between two rocks.<\/p>\n<p>Strawberry anemones were around; purple&#8230; things too.<\/p>\n<p>At a point we sort of looked at each other and gestured &#8220;what now?&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>We started slowly making our way back.<\/p>\n<p>We surfaced just off the cove and decided to check out the newly formed kelp just to the West.<\/p>\n<p>We submerged and visibility improved over by the kelp &#8211; 15 feet and very clear.<\/p>\n<p>We came across a formation labeled &#8220;Palos Verdes High School artificial reef project. Do not touch.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>I have no idea what it was made from and was so shapeless I can&#8217;t describe it.<\/p>\n<p>Ron came across a lost fin and handed it to me.<\/p>\n<p>We surfaced and did a short swim in; I followed Ron.<\/p>\n<p>We had a barbecue where my mother, father and brother joined us for Mother&#8217;s Day; my mother wanted to &#8220;check out the diving scene.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/psychosolodiver.com\/wp-content\/5tyty.jpg\" alt=\"Ed makes Korean ribs.\" \/><\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/psychosolodiver.com\/wp-content\/6tyty.jpg\" alt=\"Old Marineland is looking pretty barren.\" \/><\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/psychosolodiver.com\/wp-content\/4tyty.jpg\" alt=\"The entire group!\" \/><\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/psychosolodiver.com\/wp-content\/dsc01353tyty.jpg\" alt=\"Ed and Ron enjoy Sierra Nevada.\" \/><\/p>\n<p>We had a great time drinking, talking, and barbecuing Korean ribs and eating Kim Chi and rice.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/psychosolodiver.com\/wp-content\/7tyty.jpg\" alt=\"Another great day at the fastly disappearing Old Marineland.\" \/><\/p>\n<p>Another great day at the fastly disappearing Old Marineland.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Mother&#8217;s Day Long Point, Rancho Palos Verdes, CA (aka The Old Marineland) Dove with Ron T.
