{"id":607,"date":"2006-09-24T00:46:05","date_gmt":"2006-09-24T07:46:05","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/psychosolodiver.com\/?p=607"},"modified":"2008-01-30T19:51:34","modified_gmt":"2008-01-31T02:51:34","slug":"logged-dive-205-old-marineland-solo-dive","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/psychosolodiver.com\/?p=607","title":{"rendered":"Logged Dive #205 &#8211; Old Marineland Solo Dive"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Long Point, Rancho Palos Verdes, CA<br \/>\n(aka The Old Marineland)<\/p>\n<p>Solo Diving<\/p>\n<p>In With: 2500 psi<br \/>\nOut With: 500 psi<br \/>\nMax depth: 45 feet<br \/>\nWaves:  Long, swooping 3 to 4 foot swells<br \/>\nVisibility: 10 feet and silty<br \/>\nWater Temperature: Cool<br \/>\nTotal Bottom Time: About 40 minutes<\/p>\n<p>I had to stop in at work early, so afterwards I headed over the bridge and to Long Point.<\/p>\n<p>The Point looked sort of hairy &#8211; calm but a few big waves.<\/p>\n<p>The cove had sweeping, but manageable waves.<\/p>\n<p>I geared up and walked down.<\/p>\n<p>My plan was to put my fins on first, but a wave came and knocked me down, and again.<\/p>\n<p>I floated out and began to sink.<\/p>\n<p>I gulped a mouth full of water before inflating my BC jacket.<\/p>\n<p>I clumsily put both fins on as I bobbed up and down in the surf zone.<\/p>\n<p>I hoped nobody was watching, but I know I had a few people looking at my shitty entrance.<\/p>\n<p>Then, I realized that I lost my knife in the surf zone.<\/p>\n<p>I was wondering when I would lose my first knife.<\/p>\n<p>I swam towards 120 reef and submerged.<\/p>\n<p>Vis really sucked swimming out.<\/p>\n<p>Once I got to the reef, vis opened to 10 feet, put it remained pretty silty &#8211; but enjoyable nonetheless.<\/p>\n<p>I saw a lot bigger fish than usual.<\/p>\n<p>I ran across &#8220;my&#8221; lobster trap at the end of 120 reef; it&#8217;s turning in to a pile of rust and no longer usable as a clandestine lobster trap to whomever has kept baiting over the last couple of years.<\/p>\n<p>I trolled around and headed back after burning down to 1000 psi of air.<\/p>\n<p>As I was exiting, Reverend Al, Dennis and a lot of Divevets were entering the water.<\/p>\n<p>I tried to take my fins off first, but was washed up on the rocks and crawled out &#8211; sort of a non-glamorous exit.<\/p>\n<p>Al inquired on the conditions.<\/p>\n<p>He said that he &#8220;can live with 10 feet vis.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>I noticed someone ran her car into a ditch near the driveway.<\/p>\n<p>Maybe a drunken teenager out on a joyride who was looking for a short cut?<\/p>\n<p>Afterwards, a few beers, lunch with Ed, lunch with my parents and brother, more beer and then dinner with my girlfriend Jane, and more beer &#8211; I think I must have gained 20 pounds today.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Long Point, Rancho Palos Verdes, CA (aka The Old Marineland) Solo Diving In With: 2500 psi Out With: 500 psi Max depth: 45 feet Waves: Long, swooping 3 to 4 foot swells Visibility: 10 feet and silty Water Temperature: Cool Total Bottom Time: About 40 minutes I had to stop in at work early, so [&hellip;]<\/p>\n","protected":false},"author":4,"featured_media":0,"comment_status":"open","ping_status":"open","sticky":false,"template":"","format":"standard","meta":{"footnotes":""},"categories":[5,3,6],"tags":[],"_links":{"self":[{"href":"https:\/\/psychosolodiver.com\/index.php?rest_route=\/wp\/v2\/posts\/607"}],"collection":[{"href":"https:\/\/psychosolodiver.com\/index.php?rest_route=\/wp\/v2\/posts"}],"about":[{"href":"https:\/\/psychosolodiver.com\/index.php?rest_route=\/wp\/v2\/types\/post"}],"author":[{"embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/psychosolodiver.com\/index.php?rest_route=\/wp\/v2\/users\/4"}],"replies":[{"embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/psychosolodiver.com\/index.php?rest_route=%2Fwp%2Fv2%2Fcomments&post=607"}],"version-history":[{"count":0,"href":"https:\/\/psychosolodiver.com\/index.php?rest_route=\/wp\/v2\/posts\/607\/revisions"}],"wp:attachment":[{"href":"https:\/\/psychosolodiver.com\/index.php?rest_route=%2Fwp%2Fv2%2Fmedia&parent=607"}],"wp:term":[{"taxonomy":"category","embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/psychosolodiver.com\/index.php?rest_route=%2Fwp%2Fv2%2Fcategories&post=607"},{"taxonomy":"post_tag","embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/psychosolodiver.com\/index.php?rest_route=%2Fwp%2Fv2%2Ftags&post=607"}],"curies":[{"name":"wp","href":"https:\/\/api.w.org\/{rel}","templated":true}]}}
