{"id":552,"date":"2006-06-25T19:23:27","date_gmt":"2006-06-26T02:23:27","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/psychosolodiver.com\/?p=552"},"modified":"2008-01-27T11:43:35","modified_gmt":"2008-01-27T18:43:35","slug":"logged-dive-191-dmiting-an-ow-class-at-vets-park","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/psychosolodiver.com\/?p=552","title":{"rendered":"Logged Dive #191 &#8211; DMITing An OW Class At Vet&#8217;s Park"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Veteran&#8217;s Park<br \/>\nRedondo Beach, CA<\/p>\n<p>Dove with Instructor John&#8217;s Open Water students Young Biologist, Young Biologist&#8217;s Brother and John&#8217;s friend Jim.<strong>*<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>In With: 1900 psi<br \/>\nOut With: 800 psi<br \/>\nMax depth: 62 feet<br \/>\nWaves:  1-3 feet<br \/>\nVisibility: 5-10 feet<br \/>\nWater Temperature: 62 degrees Fahrenheit on the surface, 54 degrees Fahrenheit thermo cline.<br \/>\nTotal Bottom Time: About 20 minutes<br \/>\n<strong>*Student names have been changed.<br \/>\n<\/strong><br \/>\nGloria had a short fill from the shop, so John turned Young Biologist and her brother over to dive with Jim and me.<\/p>\n<p>Jim led the way;  I checked both student&#8217;s air before we descended over the shelf.  <\/p>\n<p>There was a hell of a thermo-cline, it got really cold!<\/p>\n<p>Once down to 63 feet, Jim checked the students&#8217; air and pointed that we needed to go back.<\/p>\n<p>We turned around and I lead the way towards shore.<\/p>\n<p>We all surfaced about 30 yards out. <\/p>\n<p>Jim said that Young Biologist only had 900 psi when we were at 62 feet.  <\/p>\n<p>She was really going through air fast;  I&#8217;m glad Jim caught that!<\/p>\n<p>Jim and the Young Biologist did a surface swim back to shore.  <\/p>\n<p>Her brother and I submerged for the swim;  he wanted just to go ashore and not do any more touring.<\/p>\n<p>We came across a Bat Ray;  I hit its tail, but it didn&#8217;t move.  <\/p>\n<p>It was obviously dead.  <\/p>\n<p>The student later asked if we could have taken it.  <\/p>\n<p>I explained why it&#8217;s not a good idea to take fish that&#8217;s already dead.<\/p>\n<p>This was a fairly quick dive;  John&#8217;s group came in after us.<\/p>\n<p>After talking to Archie and Gloria who apparently graduated today, they only plan to go resort diving &#8220;about once a year.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>To each his own&#8230;<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Veteran&#8217;s Park Redondo Beach, CA Dove with Instructor John&#8217;s Open Water students Young Biologist, Young Biologist&#8217;s Brother and John&#8217;s friend Jim.* In With: 1900 psi Out With: 800 psi Max depth: 62 feet Waves: 1-3 feet Visibility: 5-10 feet Water Temperature: 62 degrees Fahrenheit on the surface, 54 degrees Fahrenheit thermo cline.
