{"id":548,"date":"2006-06-11T18:51:14","date_gmt":"2006-06-12T01:51:14","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/psychosolodiver.com\/?p=548"},"modified":"2008-02-14T19:34:15","modified_gmt":"2008-02-15T02:34:15","slug":"logged-dive-187-diving-off-the-la-harbor-police-dock","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/psychosolodiver.com\/?p=548","title":{"rendered":"Logged Dive #187 &#8211; Diving Off The LA Harbor Police Dock"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The Dock Of The Los Angeles Harbor Police Headquarters<br \/>\nInside Los Angeles Harbor<\/p>\n<p><strong>WARNING:  You are not normally allowed to dive in a harbor unless you obtain permission first. <\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>It is a great way to get arrested and interrogated by the Department of Homeland Security.  <\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>Having the Police with you is also a good idea.  <\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>But, by not diving in a harbor, you are not missing anything at all.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Dove with Instructor John, his friend Jim and John&#8217;s Harbor Police Open Water students as part of my Dive Master training.<\/p>\n<p>In With: 2000 psi<br \/>\nOut With: 1700 psi<br \/>\nMax depth: 15 feet<br \/>\nWaves:  0<br \/>\nVisibility: 0-2 feet, really shitty<br \/>\nWater Temperature: 60 degrees Fahrenheit, I think<br \/>\nTotal Bottom Time: 12 minutes<\/p>\n<p>I don&#8217;t know if I should consider this a dive, but under the circumstances (students, visibility) I obviously will.<\/p>\n<p>The Police boat pulled back in to the dock and we dove off the pier &#8211; I did a giant stride off the end.<\/p>\n<p>The woman followed, but lost her weight belt;  I retrieved it.<\/p>\n<p>Three students were in the water plus John, Jim and myself.  John paired us up for a tour.<\/p>\n<p>My &#8220;buddy&#8221; was the young officer that I brought in yesterday due to low air.<\/p>\n<p>He asked if he could hold my arm as vis really sucked &#8211; about zero to two feet.<\/p>\n<p>I said, &#8220;sure.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>We submerged and bumped around under the pier for several minutes.<\/p>\n<p>I gave him the &#8220;OK&#8221; signal; he responded with the &#8220;having trouble clearing&#8221; signal;  we surfaced.<\/p>\n<p>I pointed to a ladder off the pier and suggested that we swim there and try submerging again, as slow as possible.<\/p>\n<p>We swam over and he said, &#8220;I&#8217;m done.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;OK, great!&#8221; I thought.<\/p>\n<p>We swam over to the ladder that was not completely rusted and climbed up.<\/p>\n<p>These two dives were the nastiest, most disgusting dives I&#8217;ve ever been on.<\/p>\n<p>I tasted diesel fuel in my mouth for hours &#8211; I hope it was only diesel fuel!<\/p>\n<p><img SRC=\"http:\/\/psychosolodiver.com\/wp-content\/424.jpg\" ALT=\"Jim and his buddy dive off the smelly, stinky, crappy (literally) harbor.\" \/><\/p>\n<p>Jim and his buddy dive off the smelly, stinky, crappy (literally) harbor.<\/p>\n<p><img SRC=\"http:\/\/psychosolodiver.com\/wp-content\/524.jpg\" ALT=\"The LA Harbor Police Dock.\" \/><\/p>\n<p>The LA Harbor Police Dock.<\/p>\n<p><img SRC=\"http:\/\/psychosolodiver.com\/wp-content\/busted.gif\" ALT=\"I thought to myself, Police cars are more comfortable than Police boats.\" \/><\/p>\n<p>I thought to myself, Police cars are more comfortable than Police boats.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>The Dock Of The Los Angeles Harbor Police Headquarters Inside Los Angeles Harbor WARNING: You are not normally allowed to dive in a harbor unless you obtain permission first.
