{"id":534,"date":"2006-04-29T21:59:32","date_gmt":"2006-04-30T04:59:32","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/psychosolodiver.com\/?p=534"},"modified":"2008-01-27T09:05:39","modified_gmt":"2008-01-27T16:05:39","slug":"logged-dive-178-diving-the-ruby-e-wreck","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/psychosolodiver.com\/?p=534","title":{"rendered":"Logged Dive #178 &#8211; Diving The Ruby E Wreck"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Wreck Diving The Ruby E<br \/>\nOff the Lois Anne Boat<br \/>\nSan Diego, CA<\/p>\n<p>Dove with fellow DM student Ron T;  Instructor John followed.<\/p>\n<p>In With: 3700 psi (Overfill!)<br \/>\nOut With: 2000 psi<br \/>\nMax depth: 70 feet<br \/>\nWaves:  Insignificant<br \/>\nVisibility: 20 feet<br \/>\nWater Temperature: 51 degrees Fahrenheit<br \/>\nTotal Bottom Time: 20 minutes<\/p>\n<p>The Ruby E is a sunken Coast Guard Cutter.<\/p>\n<p>Vis on this dive was a little better than on the Yukon; but, maybe it just looked that way because we could see practically the whole ship &#8211; the Yukon is just too big.<\/p>\n<p>I again was the first one off the boat; we followed the mooring line down to the ship.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/psychosolodiver.com\/wp-content\/142.jpg\" alt=\"Strawberry Anemones\" \/><\/p>\n<p>There was some kind of purple coral of the wreck &#8211; later identified as Strawberry Anemones.<\/p>\n<p>Ron and I swam through the wheelhouse&#8230;<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/psychosolodiver.com\/wp-content\/813.jpg\" alt=\"Ron outside the wheelhouse\" \/><\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/psychosolodiver.com\/wp-content\/910.jpg\" alt=\"Ron Inside The Wheelhouse\" \/><\/p>\n<p>There are sharp points along the deck where the railing used to be.<\/p>\n<p>It was cold;  I was getting an &#8220;ice cream&#8221; headache.<\/p>\n<p>John went in to the hull.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/psychosolodiver.com\/wp-content\/1111.jpg\" alt=\"Looking into the hull.\" \/><\/p>\n<p>Ron motioned to me that we should go up. <\/p>\n<p>Ron was diving very conservatively; he may have been narced, but I didn&#8217;t think so.<\/p>\n<p>However a 20-minute dive at 70 feet after an hour surface interval seems pretty short to me.<\/p>\n<p>We did our safety stop and surfaced with no problem.<\/p>\n<p>A lot of the other divers were doing decompression diving.  <\/p>\n<p>John said, &#8220;they put a lot of faith on theory.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>A lot of the other divers were knuckleheads.  <\/p>\n<p>I think a lot of it was the typical new diver syndrome &#8211; new equipment and big egos.<\/p>\n<p>As part of our Dive Master class, we talked extensively to the hot Dive Master, Anita.<\/p>\n<p>She said she gets frustrated with the divers who don&#8217;t listen or don&#8217;t respond.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/psychosolodiver.com\/wp-content\/106.jpg\" alt=\"The DM Anita, The Captain and John in the foreground.\" \/><\/p>\n<p>The DM Anita, The Captain and John in the foreground.<\/p>\n<p>I said to Anita, &#8220;So if I stop breathing, you would give me mouth to mouth resuscitation?&#8221;  <\/p>\n<p>The Captain interrupted, &#8220;I know CPR, too.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>There was a fishing boat that kept following us; Anita had to &#8220;shoe them away.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>After a short and beerless trip back to the harbor, John and I packed up and went to lunch with his nephew Michael Paul and his friend who are training to become Navy Seals.<\/p>\n<p>With gas prices over $3 a gallon, there were not many people on the road.  <\/p>\n<p>At 4:30 AM, we made it to San Diego in an hour and a half &#8211; the same amount of time it took us to come back at 3 PM.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Wreck Diving The Ruby E Off the Lois Anne Boat San Diego, CA Dove with fellow DM student Ron T; Instructor John followed.
