{"id":526,"date":"2006-04-23T21:35:43","date_gmt":"2006-04-24T04:35:43","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/psychosolodiver.com\/?p=526"},"modified":"2008-01-26T20:35:40","modified_gmt":"2008-01-27T03:35:40","slug":"logged-dive-176-dmiting-an-openwater-student","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/psychosolodiver.com\/?p=526","title":{"rendered":"Logged Dive #176 &#8211; DMITing An OpenWater Student"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Avalon Underwater Park<br \/>\n(aka Casino Point)<br \/>\nCatalina, CA<\/p>\n<p>Dove with Instructor John, Ron T. and John&#8217;s Open Water student Jack<strong>*<\/strong> as part of our Dive Master class.<\/p>\n<p>In With: 2000 psi<br \/>\nOut With: 800 psi<br \/>\nMax depth: 65 feet<br \/>\nWaves:  1-2 feet, insignificant<br \/>\nVisibility: 20 feet or so<br \/>\nWater Temperature: 58 degrees Fahrenheit<br \/>\nTotal Bottom Time: 20 minutes<br \/>\n<strong>*Student name has been changed.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>This is my second dive today with Instructor John, Ron T. and the OW student Jack.<\/p>\n<p>Jack made it down a little quicker this dive;  he also managed better control &#8211; not much arm movement.<\/p>\n<p>Jack was amazed that we all looked like we were just &#8220;floating there.&#8221; <\/p>\n<p>He did his beast to emulate us, but this being his second SCUBA dive ever, nobody was expecting his buoyancy to be perfect.<\/p>\n<p>We went down to the barge, and through the opening as we usually do.  <\/p>\n<p>Ron went around.<\/p>\n<p>John checked Jack&#8217;s air and started heading back.  <\/p>\n<p>Jack did a good job trying to be streamlined and maintain control.<\/p>\n<p>We made it out with no problems, even though the tide was lower and some rocks were exposed under the staircase.<\/p>\n<p>Since we had a while before boarding the boat back, all four of us went to a pizza place and ran up a $100 tab for pizza, shrimp and beer.<\/p>\n<p>We had several more beers on the way back.<\/p>\n<p>John quit drinking after two beers at the restaurant;  Ron and I kept up with Jack.<\/p>\n<p>Jack was certainly an entertaining student. <\/p>\n<p>He&#8217;s a longshoreman, amateur boxer and loves to drink and pick up women; he put on a progressively entertaining show on the way home as we pounded the beers.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Avalon Underwater Park (aka Casino Point) Catalina, CA Dove with Instructor John, Ron T. and John&#8217;s Open Water student Jack* as part of our Dive Master class.
