{"id":525,"date":"2006-04-23T21:33:26","date_gmt":"2006-04-24T04:33:26","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/psychosolodiver.com\/?p=525"},"modified":"2008-01-26T20:30:49","modified_gmt":"2008-01-27T03:30:49","slug":"logged-dive-175-dmiting-an-open-water-student","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/psychosolodiver.com\/?p=525","title":{"rendered":"Logged Dive #175 &#8211; DMITing An Open Water Student"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Avalon Underwater Park<br \/>\n(aka Casino Point)<br \/>\nCatalina, CA<\/p>\n<p>Dove with Instructor John, Ron T. and John&#8217;s Open Water student Jack<strong>* <\/strong>as part of our Dive Master class.<\/p>\n<p>In With: 3000 psi<br \/>\nOut With: 2000 psi<br \/>\nMax depth: 40 feet<br \/>\nWaves:  1-2 feet, insignificant<br \/>\nVisibility: 20 feet or so<br \/>\nWater Temperature: 58 degrees Fahrenheit<br \/>\nTotal Bottom Time: About 30 minutes<br \/>\n<strong>*Student name has been changed.<br \/>\n<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>We did the traditional skin dive first &#8211; we saw a HUGE black sea bass.  <\/p>\n<p>Jack was a little freaked and yelled to us, &#8220;What is that? Is it going to hurt us?&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>We swam after it.<\/p>\n<p>The free dive sort of reminded me how I sometimes don&#8217;t like free diving.  <\/p>\n<p>I think I almost passed out coming up from 25 feet;  I was dizzy for a bit.<\/p>\n<p>On the actual SCUBA dive, Jack slipped on the stairs leading to the water; he was all right.<\/p>\n<p>We all made it out and met at the life preserver\/ buoy.<\/p>\n<p>Jack took a while getting down.<\/p>\n<p>John fed the fish frozen peas.  <\/p>\n<p>The fish swarmed &#8211; Jack tried catching a few.<\/p>\n<p>We headed over to the Jacques Cousteau memorial.  <\/p>\n<p>John had Jack adjust his BC jacket &#8211; something must have happened, like diver malfunction, because as soon as we left the memorial, Jack started to float up.   <\/p>\n<p>Ron chased after him, I went to get John.<\/p>\n<p>We all surfaced, swam to where it was shallower and continued our dive.  <\/p>\n<p>Jack took his time getting down, which was okay.<\/p>\n<p>We all made it back and up the stairs without incident.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Avalon Underwater Park (aka Casino Point) Catalina, CA Dove with Instructor John, Ron T. and John&#8217;s Open Water student Jack* as part of our Dive Master class.
