{"id":521,"date":"2006-03-25T21:25:15","date_gmt":"2006-03-26T04:25:15","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/psychosolodiver.com\/?p=521"},"modified":"2008-01-26T20:25:31","modified_gmt":"2008-01-27T03:25:31","slug":"logged-dive-174-diving-long-point-with-nick","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/psychosolodiver.com\/?p=521","title":{"rendered":"Logged Dive #174 &#8211; Diving Long Point With Nick"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Long Point, Palos Verdes, CA<br \/>\n(aka The Old Marineland)<\/p>\n<p>Dove with Nick<\/p>\n<p>In With: 2900 psi<br \/>\nOut With: 1200 psi<br \/>\nMax depth: 40 feet<br \/>\nWaves:  1-2 feet, calm, except upon exit<br \/>\nVisibility: 5-10 feet at best, silty<br \/>\nWater Temperature: 47 degrees Fahrenheit, according to Nick; cold!<br \/>\nTotal Bottom Time: 47 minutes<\/p>\n<p>I met Nick around 9 AM; I sort of had a hangover from last night.<\/p>\n<p>We went off the cove.  <\/p>\n<p>It was fairly calm going in with only a slight motion of the one to two foot swells.<\/p>\n<p>The water seemed very cold.  <\/p>\n<p>When we submerged, my head felt like it was freezing.<\/p>\n<p>Since Nick is out of shape and I had a hangover, we both agreed to go slow.<\/p>\n<p>There was a seal swimming around us for a while;  I don&#8217;t know if Nick saw it or not, but I think something spooked him.  <\/p>\n<p>The vis was very silty.<\/p>\n<p>We traveled East, up the coastline, never getting deeper than 40 feet.<\/p>\n<p>We had plenty of air after 30 minutes, but we headed back because we both were cold.<\/p>\n<p>We swam back to the cove, avoiding some fishermen.<\/p>\n<p>As we were approaching the surf zone, we were pounded by maybe three or four large swells. <\/p>\n<p>Nick hurt his ankle, or was it his knee(?), coming ashore.<\/p>\n<p>I took my fins off, but ended up diving back into a swell trying not to get smashed against the rocks.<\/p>\n<p>I would was up, then fight the undertow &#8211; I crawled out and got pushed several times hoping that no really big wave would hit.  <\/p>\n<p>By the time I was on shore, Nick was already out.<\/p>\n<p>Looking back at the water as we walked up, the surf zone was calm.  <\/p>\n<p>Just my luck!<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Long Point, Palos Verdes, CA (aka The Old Marineland) Dove with Nick In With: 2900 psi Out With: 1200 psi Max depth: 40 feet Waves: 1-2 feet, calm, except upon exit Visibility: 5-10 feet at best, silty Water Temperature: 47 degrees Fahrenheit, according to Nick; cold!
