{"id":435,"date":"2005-08-07T19:27:45","date_gmt":"2005-08-08T02:27:45","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/psychosolodiver.com\/?p=435"},"modified":"2008-01-22T23:34:55","modified_gmt":"2008-01-23T06:34:55","slug":"logged-dive-134-safety-diver-for-johns-ow-class","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/psychosolodiver.com\/?p=435","title":{"rendered":"Logged Dive #134 &#8211; Safety Diver For John&#8217;s OW Class"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Veteran&#8217;s Park, Redondo Beach, CA<\/p>\n<p>I dove as a safety diver with Instructor John&#8217;s Open Water class.<strong>*<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>In With: 2600 psi<br \/>\nOut With: 2000 psi<br \/>\nMax depth: 40 feet<br \/>\nWaves:  1-3 feet<br \/>\nVisibility: 5-10 feet<br \/>\nWater Temperature: Cold at 40 feet<br \/>\nTotal Bottom Time: 15 minutes or so<br \/>\n<strong>*The names of students have been changed.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>John canceled the July 31st trip to Catalina due to an illness.<\/p>\n<p>Young Hottie, Green Horn, Pedro and three other students from another class were in attendance.<\/p>\n<p>We did the traditional &#8220;get wet and feel the bottom&#8221; and skin dive routine.<\/p>\n<p>Class moved fairly quickly.<\/p>\n<p>On this dive, Pedro canceled the dive because he had &#8220;sand in the latches of his fins.&#8221;  <\/p>\n<p>John swam over and jokingly asked if I had sabotaged his fins.<\/p>\n<p>I submerged first,  everyone else followed except for one of the new students.  <\/p>\n<p>The student had some kind of a sinus problem;  his eyes were as big as golf balls, so John sent him back in.<\/p>\n<p>With everyone down, I took up the back, John lead.  <\/p>\n<p>New divers!  <\/p>\n<p>They breathe heavy, crawl on the bottom and bicycle kick;  I must have done the same thing when I was learning.<\/p>\n<p>One of the new students developed an ear problem &#8211; as he told me later &#8211; at forty feet and started to ascend;  his buddy followed him, and I followed them.  <\/p>\n<p>He tried to submerge again, but couldn&#8217;t make it.<\/p>\n<p>Rejoining John and his group at this point would have been a long shot.<\/p>\n<p>We floated towards the stairs and started to exit just as the rest of our group was doing the same several yards away from us.  <\/p>\n<p>John accidentally dropped his weight belt helping Young Hottie out of the surf.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Veteran&#8217;s Park, Redondo Beach, CA I dove as a safety diver with Instructor John&#8217;s Open Water class.* In With: 2600 psi Out With: 2000 psi Max depth: 40 feet Waves: 1-3 feet Visibility: 5-10 feet Water Temperature: Cold at 40 feet Total Bottom Time: 15 minutes or so *The names of students have been changed.
