{"id":307,"date":"2005-02-26T16:45:56","date_gmt":"2005-02-26T23:45:56","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/psychosolodiver.com\/?p=307"},"modified":"2008-01-20T12:32:36","modified_gmt":"2008-01-20T19:32:36","slug":"logged-dive-105-obversed-johns-ow-course","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/psychosolodiver.com\/?p=307","title":{"rendered":"Logged Dive #105, Observed John&#8217;s OW Course"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Veteran&#8217;s Park, Redondo Beach, CA<\/p>\n<p>Dove With Instructor John and his Basic Open Water class.<\/p>\n<p>In With: 3100 psi<br \/>\nOut With: 1700 psi<br \/>\nMax depth: 70 feet<br \/>\nWaves:  1-4 feet (Red Tide)<br \/>\nVisibility: 5 feet at best &#8211;  It sucked because of Red Tide.<br \/>\nWater Temperature: 60 degrees<br \/>\nTotal Bottom Time: 24 minutes<\/p>\n<p>It has been raining on and off for a solid month.<\/p>\n<p>The whole Southern California has been drenched.<\/p>\n<p>Landslides, floods, people dieing have all been in the news.<\/p>\n<p>I have been taking a SCUBA Rescue Course through Instructor John; two weeks ago the ocean work was canceled due to the poor conditions.<\/p>\n<p>The last leg of the Rescue Course is scheduled today at 10:30 AM;  I showed up at 7:30 to watch John teach his class.<\/p>\n<p>Jake from the Rescue Course was there, too.<\/p>\n<p>John was teaching four students from &#8220;Pelican,&#8221; the flashlight company.<\/p>\n<p>I made it out first in the 2-3 foot red tide surf; two students followed.<\/p>\n<p>The third student turned back.<\/p>\n<p>John rescued the fourth student who was hyperventilating.<\/p>\n<p>John took him back through the surf and pulled him to shore with the help of the other student.<\/p>\n<p>John made it back out with the rest of us.<\/p>\n<p>We submerged to 20 feet and followed John down the shelf to 70 feet.<\/p>\n<p>It was extremely dark; a student turned his flashlight on &#8211; a flashlight that I later recovered for him when he dropped it.<\/p>\n<p>Then we headed back.<\/p>\n<p>I was the first one on shore.<\/p>\n<p>We helped one of the students back up.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Veteran&#8217;s Park, Redondo Beach, CA Dove With Instructor John and his Basic Open Water class.
