{"id":300,"date":"2004-12-25T16:03:59","date_gmt":"2004-12-25T23:03:59","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/psychosolodiver.com\/?p=300"},"modified":"2008-01-19T23:49:12","modified_gmt":"2008-01-20T06:49:12","slug":"logged-dive-98-christmas-day-solo-dive-at-long-point","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/psychosolodiver.com\/?p=300","title":{"rendered":"Logged Dive #98 &#8211; Christmas Day Solo Dive At Long Point"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Long Point, Rancho Palos Verdes, CA<br \/>\n(aka The Old Marineland)<\/p>\n<p>Christmas Day Solo Diving<\/p>\n<p>In With: 3000 psi<br \/>\nOut With: 1200 psi<br \/>\nMax depth: 45 feet<br \/>\nWaves:  1-4 feet<br \/>\nVisibility: 5-10 feet, soupy<br \/>\nWater Temperature: Cold<br \/>\nTotal Bottom Time: 35 minutes<\/p>\n<p>It was about 11 AM; nobody was at long Point except the security guard for the movie set &#8220;Dick and Jane.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>As I was gearing up, a mother and her hottie daughter drove up and asked about the conditions.<\/p>\n<p>I told her that I had heard that conditions have sucked recently.<\/p>\n<p>The hottie said, &#8220;Be careful, there&#8217;s a storm coming and nobody is around.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>She obviously doesn&#8217;t know that I&#8217;m macho.<\/p>\n<p>Teenagers were having a beer party in Pigeon Shit cave. <\/p>\n<p>I was hoping that they would be around when I got back, so they could offer me one.<\/p>\n<p>I swam out, lined up with the two &#8220;lobster trap&#8221; markings (as described in <a href=\"http:\/\/psychosolodiver.com\/index.php?p=293\"> dive #92 <\/a>) and submerged.<\/p>\n<p>Visibility really sucked;  5-10 feet at best, but very silty and soupy.<\/p>\n<p>At 40 feet I looked around, but couldn&#8217;t find the lobster trap.<\/p>\n<p>I surfaced, swam East to realign the markers and submerged.<\/p>\n<p>I found it within two minutes.<\/p>\n<p>I noticed that someone must have just baited it with two jars full of frozen Sheephead meat;  the lids had slits in them and the trap door was tied shut.<\/p>\n<p>I wonder who keeps baiting this thing?   <\/p>\n<p>There were no lobsters in the trap.<\/p>\n<p>I started swimming back.<\/p>\n<p>Close to shore, there were big surges and bad visibility.<\/p>\n<p>Sometimes all I saw was silt.<\/p>\n<p>I surfaced about 70 yards out since I couldn&#8217;t see anything underwater.<\/p>\n<p>It was sort of a challenge getting back on shore.  <\/p>\n<p>The waves were shallow, but they swept over the surf zone about 15 to 20 feet.<\/p>\n<p>I got sucked back a few times in the receding waves.<\/p>\n<p>Once on shore &#8211; BOOM!<\/p>\n<p>A huge wave crashed onto the rocks! <\/p>\n<p>Phew!<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Long Point, Rancho Palos Verdes, CA (aka The Old Marineland) Christmas Day Solo Diving In With: 3000 psi Out With: 1200 psi Max depth: 45 feet Waves: 1-4 feet Visibility: 5-10 feet, soupy Water Temperature: Cold Total Bottom Time: 35 minutes It was about 11 AM; nobody was at long Point except the security guard [&hellip;]<\/p>\n","protected":false},"author":4,"featured_media":0,"comment_status":"open","ping_status":"open","sticky":false,"template":"","format":"standard","meta":{"footnotes":""},"categories":[5,3,6],"tags":[],"_links":{"self":[{"href":"https:\/\/psychosolodiver.com\/index.php?rest_route=\/wp\/v2\/posts\/300"}],"collection":[{"href":"https:\/\/psychosolodiver.com\/index.php?rest_route=\/wp\/v2\/posts"}],"about":[{"href":"https:\/\/psychosolodiver.com\/index.php?rest_route=\/wp\/v2\/types\/post"}],"author":[{"embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/psychosolodiver.com\/index.php?rest_route=\/wp\/v2\/users\/4"}],"replies":[{"embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/psychosolodiver.com\/index.php?rest_route=%2Fwp%2Fv2%2Fcomments&post=300"}],"version-history":[{"count":0,"href":"https:\/\/psychosolodiver.com\/index.php?rest_route=\/wp\/v2\/posts\/300\/revisions"}],"wp:attachment":[{"href":"https:\/\/psychosolodiver.com\/index.php?rest_route=%2Fwp%2Fv2%2Fmedia&parent=300"}],"wp:term":[{"taxonomy":"category","embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/psychosolodiver.com\/index.php?rest_route=%2Fwp%2Fv2%2Fcategories&post=300"},{"taxonomy":"post_tag","embeddable":true,"href":"https:\/\/psychosolodiver.com\/index.php?rest_route=%2Fwp%2Fv2%2Ftags&post=300"}],"curies":[{"name":"wp","href":"https:\/\/api.w.org\/{rel}","templated":true}]}}
