{"id":293,"date":"2004-11-25T18:34:32","date_gmt":"2004-11-26T01:34:32","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/psychosolodiver.com\/?p=293"},"modified":"2008-01-19T21:54:03","modified_gmt":"2008-01-20T04:54:03","slug":"logged-dive-92-the-old-marineland-rpv-ca","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/psychosolodiver.com\/?p=293","title":{"rendered":"Logged Dive #92 The Old Marineland, RPV, CA"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Long Point, Rancho Palos Verdes, CA<br \/>\n(aka The Old Marineland)<\/p>\n<p>My second annual Thanksgiving Day Solo Dive!<\/p>\n<p>In With: 2800 psi<br \/>\nOut With: 100 psi<br \/>\nMax depth: 40 feet<br \/>\nWaves:  1 foot, rolling swells<br \/>\nVisibility: 20 feet, excellent, you could snorkel around the kelp<br \/>\nWater Temperature: Felt sort of cold<br \/>\nTotal Bottom Time: 50 minutes<\/p>\n<p>I was rather drunk last night.<\/p>\n<p>I woke up around 6 AM, but hadn&#8217;t figured out whether Nick wanted to dive this morning, so I called him at 6:45 to confirm a &#8220;No.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>Oh well, I took my time getting there and was in the water by 10:20 AM.<\/p>\n<p>It was around high tide.<\/p>\n<p>I tried the one-fin on approach, but figured out really quickly that walking through the surf zone and putting my fins on in the water is much better.<\/p>\n<p>I went to the East side of the cove and swam in the shallow kelp looking for lobsters.<\/p>\n<p>Not seeing any lobster at 15-20 feet, I proceeded South.<\/p>\n<p>I found THE lobster trap.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/psychosolodiver.com\/index.php?p=292\"> The last dive <\/a> I reported that it was rusted out, but we had stumbled upon a different trap.<\/p>\n<p>How to get to THE trap:<\/p>\n<p>When you&#8217;ve reached the tip of the rocky point off of Pigeon Shit cave (the rock that&#8217;s sitting on the point outside of pigeon shit cave) that touches the right side of the indentation to the right of the cave.<\/p>\n<p>The trap is in 40 feet of water.<\/p>\n<p>I noticed that someone had baited the trap with broken sea urchins and what looked like a few scoops of peanut butter.<\/p>\n<p>The trap was tied shut with fishing line.<\/p>\n<p>I laughed because Sheephead were making a feast of the bait in the trap.<\/p>\n<p>Anyway, I left heading 140 degrees on my compass; I came up just South East of he point off of pigeon shit cave.<\/p>\n<p>I swam in, mostly on the surface at that time.<\/p>\n<p>I sucked my tank almost dry, but walked out.<\/p>\n<p>Dennis G and his buddy Al were there.<\/p>\n<p>I also met &#8220;Greg&#8221; who does boat scrapping for a living.<\/p>\n<p>We talked for about an hour; Dennis and Al went back for a second dive.<\/p>\n<p>I&#8217;ll be back to check on the lobster trap and hopefully report whoever has baited the thing.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Long Point, Rancho Palos Verdes, CA (aka The Old Marineland) My second annual Thanksgiving Day Solo Dive!
