{"id":279,"date":"2004-10-02T14:12:08","date_gmt":"2004-10-02T21:12:08","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/psychosolodiver.com\/?p=279"},"modified":"2008-01-19T19:19:14","modified_gmt":"2008-01-20T02:19:14","slug":"logged-dive-80","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/psychosolodiver.com\/?p=279","title":{"rendered":"Logged Dive #80 Malaga Cove Lobster Hunting"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Malaga Cove, Palos Verdes Estates, CA<\/p>\n<p>Early morning dive with Nick looking for lobsters<\/p>\n<p>In With: 2900 psi<br \/>\nOut With: 500 psi<br \/>\nMax depth: 20 feet<br \/>\nWaves:  1-2 feet but pretty calm<br \/>\nVisibility: 10 feet<br \/>\nWater Temperature: Warm<br \/>\nTotal Bottom Time: 70 minutes<\/p>\n<p>We met at Malaga Cove at 4:50 AM.<\/p>\n<p>Other divers were already there, parked on the street as there is no parking between 9 PM and 5 AM.<\/p>\n<p>We suited up and entered the water just under the pool.<\/p>\n<p>It was very shallow and silty towards shore, but the visibility got to 10 feet further out.<\/p>\n<p>It was dark; we obviously had flashlights.<\/p>\n<p>We spent the better part of an hour chasing lobsters.<\/p>\n<p>At night they literally walk around trying to find food.  <\/p>\n<p>We swam up on many and caught several &#8211; all too short.<\/p>\n<p>Nick at one point said, &#8220;If I run out of air, I&#8217;m going to start free diving for lobsters.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>We came across several lobster holes, but it was getting light and they were literally wedged in there.<\/p>\n<p>Nick caught a few and even put one in his bag, until we brought it to the surface and figured that it was short.<\/p>\n<p>It was getting pretty light when exited; easy exit.<\/p>\n<p>Apparently, real lobster hunters consider Malaga Cove the &#8220;lobster nursery.&#8221;<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Malaga Cove, Palos Verdes Estates, CA Early morning dive with Nick looking for lobsters In With: 2900 psi Out With: 500 psi Max depth: 20 feet Waves: 1-2 feet but pretty calm Visibility: 10 feet Water Temperature: Warm Total Bottom Time: 70 minutes We met at Malaga Cove at 4:50 AM.
