{"id":2573,"date":"2013-06-16T23:42:36","date_gmt":"2013-06-17T06:42:36","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/psychosolodiver.com\/?p=2573"},"modified":"2013-06-24T06:08:56","modified_gmt":"2013-06-24T13:08:56","slug":"2013-fathers-day-dive-at-terranea-resort","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/psychosolodiver.com\/?p=2573","title":{"rendered":"2013 Father&#8217;s Day Dive At Terranea Resort"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>I&#8217;ve had a rather bad cold for a week, and honestly I have no clue as to how I got it, however some have speculated that since I have quit drinking draft beer, the cold may be just symptoms of withdrawals.<\/p>\n<p>I arrived at Terranea Resort at 8:15 AM to an almost full parking lot with about 40 divers gearing up.<\/p>\n<p>I believe more than three diving clubs were there, including one group that wheeled their gear down to the beach in baby strollers, where their shore support set up camp.<\/p>\n<p>I decided to go it alone;  I was still slightly congested, but not to the point that I couldn&#8217;t get down &#8211;  I just didn&#8217;t need a dive buddy, in case I was wrong and had to call the dive just after entry.<\/p>\n<p><img src='http:\/\/psychosolodiver.com\/wp-content\/oml61613dscf3850.jpg' alt='Terranea was flat as a lake.' \/><br \/>\n<em>The ocean was literally as flat as a lake and entry was extremely easy.<\/em><\/p>\n<p>Logged SCUBA Dive #436<\/p>\n<p>Solo Diving\/SoCal Buddy Diving<br \/>\n120 Reef, Terranea Resort, Rancho Palos Verdes, California, USA<\/p>\n<p>In With: 3000 psi<br \/>\nOut With: 750 psi<br \/>\nMax depth: 40 feet<br \/>\nWaves: No waves, flat as a lake<br \/>\nVisibility: 10-15 feet<br \/>\nWater Temperature: 62 degrees<br \/>\nAir Temperature: 72 degrees<br \/>\nTotal Bottom Time: 43 minutes or so<\/p>\n<p>I kicked out to the rocky finger just outside of Pigeon Shit cave and submerged.<\/p>\n<p><img src='http:\/\/psychosolodiver.com\/wp-content\/oml61613dscf3856.jpg' alt='Visibility was a little green.' \/><br \/>\nVisibility was good, however a little green &#8211; nothing that Photoshop can&#8217;t handle.<\/p>\n<p><img src='http:\/\/psychosolodiver.com\/wp-content\/oml61613dscf3860.jpg' alt='Star fish on a reef.' \/><br \/>\n<em>Star Fish make their home on a reef.<\/em><\/p>\n<p><img src='http:\/\/psychosolodiver.com\/wp-content\/oml61613dscf3869.jpg' alt='A passing Sun Star.' \/><br \/>\n<em>A passing Sun Star.<\/em><\/p>\n<p>I passed by some stirring sand; as I approached, I noticed it was a huge Bat Ray burying itself in the sand for a probable nap.<\/p>\n<p><img src='http:\/\/psychosolodiver.com\/wp-content\/oml61613dscf3874.jpg' alt='A fleeing Bat Ray.' \/><br \/>\n<em>The Bat Ray took off as soon as it spotted me.<\/em><\/p>\n<p><img src='http:\/\/psychosolodiver.com\/wp-content\/oml61613dscf3877.jpg' alt='Sea Urchins climb sea weed.' \/><br \/>\n<em>I am going to apply for a $2 million government grant to study why sea urchins climb sticks.<\/em><\/p>\n<p>After about 30 minutes I headed back in, surfacing twice to get a bearing. <\/p>\n<p>The exit was extremely easy.<\/p>\n<p>I noticed that there are still fishermen here, even though this area has been declared a marine preserve almost two years ago.<\/p>\n<p>I had some kids who were interested in what was off the coast; &#8220;Fish, Bat Rays&#8230; I was hoping to find some sunken treasure, &#8221; I said.<\/p>\n<p>Coming from my dive, still wet and geared up, I was walking to my truck in the parking lot when a car pulls up along side of me.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;Are you leaving?&#8221; the driver asked.<\/p>\n<p>Really?
