{"id":215,"date":"2004-05-31T22:23:01","date_gmt":"2004-06-01T05:23:01","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/psychosolodiver.com\/?p=215"},"modified":"2008-01-13T15:15:31","modified_gmt":"2008-01-13T22:15:31","slug":"logged-dive-52","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/psychosolodiver.com\/?p=215","title":{"rendered":"Logged Dive #52 Indian Rocks, Catalina, CA"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Indian Rocks, Catalina, CA<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/psychosolodiver.com\/wp-content\/p5311005.jpg\" alt=\"Indian Rocks, Catalina\" \/><\/p>\n<p>This is dive #3 off of &#8220;The Bottom Scratcher&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>Dove with Nick<\/p>\n<p>Nick had to repair the strap latch on one of his fins with tie wraps.<\/p>\n<p>Close to 2 PM we had to enter the water &#8212; probably closer to 2:30 PM.<\/p>\n<p>My regulator started free flowing.<\/p>\n<p>I banged on it &#8211; it stopped (I actually had been using Instructor Ed&#8217;s rig this trip.).<\/p>\n<p>I noticed that the exhaust vent on Ed&#8217;s secondary was loose; I took my knife out and tightened it while I waited for Nick.<\/p>\n<p>Dive Master Sean yelled, &#8220;Are you using your knife to work on your rig?&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;Yes,&#8221; I replied.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;I thought so,&#8221; he replied.<\/p>\n<p>Nick jumped in shortly thereafter.<\/p>\n<p>My primary second stage was OK, but my secondary second stage was free flowing slightly.<\/p>\n<p>I used my secondary second stage for this dive.<\/p>\n<p>I thought it might conserve air since my primary secondary didn&#8217;t leak.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/psychosolodiver.com\/wp-content\/p5310978a.jpg\" alt=\"Nick checks out the scenery.\" \/><\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/psychosolodiver.com\/wp-content\/p5310985a.jpg\" alt=\"Can you see the hidden fish?\" \/><\/p>\n<p>This is pretty much a shallow dive with lots of kelp and an interesting assortment of reefs and rocks.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/psychosolodiver.com\/wp-content\/p5310988a.jpg\" alt=\"Fish around kelp.\" \/><\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/psychosolodiver.com\/wp-content\/p5311004a.jpg\" alt=\"Fish off of Indian Rocks\" \/><\/p>\n<p>One turn you may be over grass, and then fall down into a reef covered with kelp.<\/p>\n<p>It&#8217;s like an underwater maze.<\/p>\n<p>Quite interesting scenery.<\/p>\n<p>We surfaced beyond the front of the boat, went back under and swam to the back.<\/p>\n<p>I was a little concerned about the depth of this dive.<\/p>\n<p>The tables said that I was good on this dive at 35 feet for 35 minutes.<\/p>\n<p>I ended up at 45 feet for 45 minutes.<\/p>\n<p>In with: 3100 psi<br \/>\nOut with: 800 psi<br \/>\nMax depth: 45 feet<br \/>\nWaves: 0 &#8211; not a factor<br \/>\nVisibility: 45 feet<br \/>\nWater Temperature: Warm<br \/>\nTotal bottom time was about 45 minutes<\/p>\n<p>The Bottom Scratcher is a great boat &#8211; we partied all the way home.<\/p>\n<p>I made it a point to drink lots of beer &#8212; I thought it would displace the residual Nitrogen in my blood with Carbon Dioxide.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/psychosolodiver.com\/wp-content\/a4.jpg\" alt=\"Captain Rick of The Bottom Scratcher\" \/><\/p>\n<p>Captain Rick of The Bottom Scratcher<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;Rick&#8221; was the Captain, &#8220;Sean&#8221; the Divemaster, &#8220;Bobby&#8221; the deckhand who filled the tanks and &#8220;Debbie&#8221; was the cook.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/psychosolodiver.com\/wp-content\/a5.jpg\" alt=\"Hot chicks sun themselves on the Bow of the Bottom Scratcher\" \/><\/p>\n<p>Hot chicks sun themselves on the bow of the Bottom Scratcher.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/psychosolodiver.com\/wp-content\/a2.jpg\" alt=\"Hot chicks rest on the second level of the Bottom Scratcher.\" \/><\/p>\n<p>Hot chicks rest on the second level of the Bottom Scratcher.<\/p>\n<p>I also met Karen &#8211; a hot chick who&#8217;s been diving for two weeks AND has a boyfriend.<\/p>\n<p>Sonya &#8211; from the Netherlands &#8211; is a blonde hottie that parties with the Captain.<\/p>\n<p>Basically, this is a cool boat with cool people.<\/p>\n<p>The Divemaster wasn&#8217;t a babysitter;  there was no problem with people solo diving.<\/p>\n<p>I will be back!<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Indian Rocks, Catalina, CA This is dive #3 off of &#8220;The Bottom Scratcher&#8221; Dove with Nick Nick had to repair the strap latch on one of his fins with tie wraps.
