{"id":2094,"date":"2011-08-28T22:29:02","date_gmt":"2011-08-29T05:29:02","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/psychosolodiver.com\/?p=2094"},"modified":"2011-08-28T22:29:02","modified_gmt":"2011-08-29T05:29:02","slug":"scuba-diving-terranea-resort","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/psychosolodiver.com\/?p=2094","title":{"rendered":"SCUBA Diving Terranea Resort"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Instructor Ed is back in town from his cross country trucking career!<\/p>\n<p><img src='http:\/\/psychosolodiver.com\/wp-content\/1_ed8878732893.jpg' alt='Ed is back at Terranea.' \/><\/p>\n<p>Sitting in a truck for weeks at a time makes it hard to fit back into his wetsuit.<\/p>\n<p>Ed met a couple of his friends to go free diving.<\/p>\n<p>The water looked a little rough &#8211; some chose The Point, a few others, including myself, chose to dive The Cove.<\/p>\n<p>Logged SCUBA Dive #388<\/p>\n<p>Dove with Air Force Chris and Dennis G.<br \/>\nOff the Cove, Terranea Resort, Rancho Palos Verdes, CA<\/p>\n<p>In With: 3000 psi<br \/>\nOut With: 700 psi<br \/>\nMax depth: 40 feet<br \/>\nWaves: Slightly surgy<br \/>\nVisibility: 2-12 feet at best<br \/>\nWater Temperature: 54 degrees<br \/>\nAir Temperature: 75 degrees<br \/>\nTotal Bottom Time: About 45 minutes<\/p>\n<p>Dennis G. and Not New Chris (from now on referred to as &#8220;Air Force Chris&#8221;) and I, made an easy entrance into the water.<\/p>\n<p>Instructor Ed and his two friends went off on their own to free dive; I told them, &#8220;Don&#8217;t shoot the big fish with the bubbles coming out of it.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p><img src='http:\/\/psychosolodiver.com\/wp-content\/2_oml9993ujen.jpg' alt='Divers off of Terranea Resort.' \/><\/p>\n<p>We swam to the edge of 120 reef and descended. <\/p>\n<p>I was 10 feet away from Chris and Dennis, but by the time I reached the bottom, they were nowhere to be found. <\/p>\n<p>I looked around&#8230; I did a full 360&#8230;the visibility absolutely sucked.<\/p>\n<p>I surfaced to look for their bubbles, but looking for the bubbles of two experienced divers can be challenging; it was a futile effort.<\/p>\n<p>I re-submerged and went towards 120 reef; sure enough, through the absolutely crappy visibility, I found them&#8230;<\/p>\n<p><img src='http:\/\/psychosolodiver.com\/wp-content\/3_badvisggjfdjhe648.jpg' alt='Bad visibility.' \/><\/p>\n<p>I made it a point to just follow Chris, that way if I got lost, I could blame him.<\/p>\n<p>At best, we reached pockets of 12 feet of clarity; at worst it was a total silt out.<\/p>\n<p><img src='http:\/\/psychosolodiver.com\/wp-content\/4_badvisllnncbvj84.jpg' alt='The vis sucked.' \/><\/p>\n<p><img src='http:\/\/psychosolodiver.com\/wp-content\/5_flashlight667548304llmtg.jpg' alt='Flashlights still makes the vis suck.'  \/><\/p>\n<p>But, when the visibility is low, you just need to go macro&#8230;<\/p>\n<p><img src='http:\/\/psychosolodiver.com\/wp-content\/6_gomacro009rbnbm4389f.jpg' alt='When the vis is low, go macro.' \/><\/p>\n<p><img src='http:\/\/psychosolodiver.com\/wp-content\/7_hhjmnenb09083nfurchin.jpg' alt='Sea Urchins.' \/><\/p>\n<p>After about 30 minutes, Chris surfaced to get a bearing&#8230;<\/p>\n<p>Dennis and I waited&#8230; and waited&#8230; we surfaced.<\/p>\n<p>Chris had descended, but couldn&#8217;t relocate us; we all met at the surface.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;This vis sucks,&#8221; Chis said.<\/p>\n<p>Nobody argued.<\/p>\n<p>We re-submerged and swam to the &#8220;Garden.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p><img src='http:\/\/psychosolodiver.com\/wp-content\/8_badvis99983jjrnklfo.jpg' alt='Pea Soup vis.' \/><\/p>\n<p>Visibility got worse;  we eventually surface swam to our destination and then descended again.<\/p>\n<p>The &#8220;Garden&#8221; as it is known, is to the right of the cove, facing the ocean.<\/p>\n<p>Visibility wasn&#8217;t that much better there either; we ran in to the group coming from The Point.<\/p>\n<p>Everyone made a perfect and professional exit.<\/p>\n<p>Visibility coming from The Point was reported to be 15 feet at maximum.<\/p>\n<p><img src='http:\/\/psychosolodiver.com\/wp-content\/9_koreandiversandme664384.jpg' alt='Instructor Ed, Moo, Shawn and me.' \/><\/p>\n<p>From left to right &#8211; Instructor Ed, Moo, Shawn and me.<\/p>\n<p>Moo is the person, 20 plus years ago, who got instructor Ed into SCUBA diving.<\/p>\n<p>Ed gave me some of the gear that I still use, but I found out that Moo gave Ed some of that equipment.<\/p>\n<p>Apparently, my console was originally Moo&#8217;s &#8211; he bought it new in the late 1970s and was amazed it is still around and that I am still using it.<\/p>\n<p><img src='http:\/\/psychosolodiver.com\/wp-content\/10_debriefing665788edhfmfkg.jpg' alt='Debriefing at Terranea Resort.' \/><\/p>\n<p>Debriefing was traditional &#8211; hot dogs, garlic bread, mango, chips and the King Of Beer!<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Instructor Ed is back in town from his cross country trucking career!
