I was talking to &#8220;Melvin&#8221; from the Sandeaters Diving club previously.<\/p>\n<p>Nick and I went out (or tried to) around 8:30 AM.<\/p>\n<p>Nick left the rocks first and swam out.<\/p>\n<p>The waves were mild, about two or three feet.<\/p>\n<p>I went down to the rocks and put one of my fins on.<\/p>\n<p>About to put the other one on, I looked up and saw this huge 12 foot swell approaching.<\/p>\n<p>Nick was on top of the wave pointing his camera down at me.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/psychosolodiver.com\/wp-content\/f5.jpg\" alt=\"Oh shit! What\u2019s happening!\" \/><\/p>\n<p>I put the second fin looped around my hand, held my spear and grabbed on to the rock that I was sitting on.<\/p>\n<p>I was scared shitless.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/psychosolodiver.com\/wp-content\/f6.jpg\" alt=\"A wave crashes and throws me against a rock.\" \/><\/p>\n<p>Just like the hand of God, the wave just picked me up and threw me.<\/p>\n<p>I had no idea where the rocks were.<\/p>\n<p>I put my arms over my head and smashed into a rock.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/psychosolodiver.com\/wp-content\/f7.jpg\" alt=\"I\u2019m still alive\" \/><\/p>\n<p>Apparently, Nick told me later, there was a second wave.<\/p>\n<p>I was okay, but my elbow was a little sore.<\/p>\n<p>I gathered the spear and quickly put my other fin on and coasted out.<\/p>\n<p>Several other divers looked on in amazement.<\/p>\n<p>I was shaken.<\/p>\n<p>It was a long swim to the second kelp bed.<\/p>\n<p>We were fighting a current pushing us the other way.<\/p>\n<p>I took inventory of my gear and checked my equipment before we submerged.<\/p>\n<p>My compass was lost in my accident.<\/p>\n<p>We got tired of swimming on the surface, so Nick took a compass bearing and we submerged to about 30 feet and headed East to the kelp bed.<\/p>\n<p>I heard the waves crashing against the rocks &#8212; a more terrifying sound than anything.<\/p>\n<p>We approached the kelp bed.<\/p>\n<p>The kelp was practically laying flat in the strong current.<\/p>\n<p>The floor started moving; silt came up.<\/p>\n<p>We surfaced to see what the hell it was.<\/p>\n<p>The waves were two to three feet on shore; it was just a strong current.<\/p>\n<p>We submerged again.<\/p>\n<p>I had no idea where we were going since I had no compass.<\/p>\n<p>Nick motioned that he wanted to follow me.<\/p>\n<p>I just hung around the kelp bed.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/psychosolodiver.com\/wp-content\/128.jpg\" alt=\"Long Point: Star fish and urchins.\" \/><\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/psychosolodiver.com\/wp-content\/218.jpg\" alt=\"Long Point: A nice colorful reef\" \/><\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/psychosolodiver.com\/wp-content\/316.jpg\" alt=\"A yellow blog on a Long Point Reef\" \/><\/p>\n<p>A few times, we ran in to other divers.<\/p>\n<p>I almost followed the wrong person.<\/p>\n<p>I did the typical hunting thing, Nick photographed.<\/p>\n<p>Towards the end, just like White Point, I found some big sheephead hiding in a small cave.<\/p>\n<p>I shot and hit one fish, but the current was extremely strong.<\/p>\n<p>I didn&#8217;t hit the fish square, so it wiggled free.<\/p>\n<p>I motioned to Nick to head in.<\/p>\n<p>I followed but had to correct him once in the cove.<\/p>\n<p>We were heading West and had to go North-West after a while.<\/p>\n<p>We both made it to shore without incident.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/psychosolodiver.com\/wp-content\/f10.jpg\" alt=\"My left elbow is split to the bone.\" \/><\/p>\n<p>Once up in the parking lot, I discovered that my left elbow was split wide open.<\/p>\n<p>Melvin from the Sandeaters said, &#8220;Do whatever works for you, but most of us walk out and put our fins on in the water &#8211; you really got tossed.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>No shit!<\/p>\n<p>I&#8217;m going to follow his advice!<\/p>\n<p>We talked with Melvin at length about diving and how not to get old.<\/p>\n<p>His advice &#8211; exercise and sex three times a day.<\/p>\n<p>Wow, I need a girlfriend!<\/p>\n<p>In with: 2800 psi<br \/>\nOut with: 600 psi<br \/>\nMaximum depth: 35 feet<br \/>\nWaves: 2-3 feet, except for one big ass wave<br \/>\nVisibility: 15 feet\/ soupy water<br \/>\nWater temperature: 60 degrees F ??<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Long Point, CA (aka The Old Marineland) Dove with Nick and some &#8220;Sandeaters.&#8221; Photos By Nick Notable Event: Maytagged On The Rocks I met Nick at 8 AM.
