{"id":1999,"date":"2011-05-14T23:56:55","date_gmt":"2011-05-15T06:56:55","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/psychosolodiver.com\/?p=1999"},"modified":"2011-05-16T11:02:36","modified_gmt":"2011-05-16T18:02:36","slug":"freedom-dive-1-at-redondo-beach","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/psychosolodiver.com\/?p=1999","title":{"rendered":"Freedom Dive #1 At Redondo Beach!"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>After almost two weeks of freedom from Psycho Woman, I decided to get back into the water for a short dive to see whether or not I need a refresher course.<\/p>\n<p>A number of Open Water classes were being taught, as usual, in addition to <a href=\"http:\/\/www.sddivers.com\/3rs.html\" target=\"_new\">Rips, Rocks and Reefs<\/a> having a course.<\/p>\n<p><img src='http:\/\/psychosolodiver.com\/wp-content\/redondobeach_vetspark8432.jpg' alt='Veterans Park - Redondo Beach' \/><\/p>\n<p>Logged SCUBA Dive #379<\/p>\n<p>Veterans&#8217; Park, Redondo Beach, CA<\/p>\n<p>Solo Diving<\/p>\n<p>In With: 2400 psi<br \/>\nOut With: 1000 psi<br \/>\nMax depth: 50 feet<br \/>\nWaves: Some pain in the ass waves coming towards shore<br \/>\nVisibility: 10 feet above the canyon, better at depth<br \/>\nWater Temperature: 57 degrees, colder at depth<br \/>\nAir Temperature: About 70 degrees<br \/>\nTotal Bottom Time: About 25 minutes<\/p>\n<p>The surf was up towards the shore, but I made an easy entrance.<\/p>\n<p>I was cameraless and, having left my hood at the Santa Monica crash pad, hoodless.<\/p>\n<p>I submerged in 15 feet of water and swam towards the canyon &#8211; the water felt fairly warm.<\/p>\n<p>As soon as I started over the canyon, it got really f&#8217;ing cold &#8211; ice cream headache set in big time.<\/p>\n<p>My stay at 50 feet was short lived &#8211; I was just too damn cold without a hood on.<\/p>\n<p>Visibility was 10 feet at best above the canyon, but seemed to open up at depth.<\/p>\n<p>I saw the usual assortment of sand, trash and crabs &#8211; my camera wasn&#8217;t needed at all on this dive.<\/p>\n<p>After messing around above the canyon lip, testing my buoyancy while trying to sing Dean Martin&#8217;s <em><a href=\"http:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Volare_%28song%29\" target=\"_new\">Volare<\/em><\/a>, I headed in &#8211; underwater is the only place I don&#8217;t get complaints when I sing.<\/p>\n<p>Of course, as it always happens, the waves picked up on my exit.<\/p>\n<p>I skillfully made my way, walking, to one feet of water when I slipped on the sand and got thrown by an incoming wave &#8211; right in front of the entire Rips, Rocks and Reefs class.<\/p>\n<p>A couple of their Dive Masters came over to see if I needed help.<\/p>\n<p>I stood up and thanked them for their potential assistance &#8211; they probably couldn&#8217;t tell how macho I really am.<\/p>\n<p>It is nice to finally go home to the Long Beach Ghetto, but word about my new found freedom has been getting around.<\/p>\n<p>I went to a local watering hole for a beer, and when I came out, four young chicks were hanging all over my car.<\/p>\n<p><img src='http:\/\/psychosolodiver.com\/wp-content\/400chickmagnet556.jpg' alt='The chick magnet Duster.' \/><\/p>\n<p>I don&#8217;t know if women like me for who I am, or if they just like my car?<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>After almost two weeks of freedom from Psycho Woman, I decided to get back into the water for a short dive to see whether or not I need a refresher course.
