{"id":1753,"date":"2009-11-01T23:30:59","date_gmt":"2009-11-02T06:30:59","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/psychosolodiver.com\/?p=1753"},"modified":"2009-11-02T12:35:16","modified_gmt":"2009-11-02T19:35:16","slug":"wonderful-diving-today-at-terranea-resort","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/psychosolodiver.com\/?p=1753","title":{"rendered":"Wonderful Diving Today At Terranea Resort"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>On the way to Terranea Resort, the water looked flat and dark &#8211; a good sign for great diving.<\/p>\n<p>About six divers went off the Point; we had an extremely easy entrance today.<\/p>\n<p>Professional Debriefer Paul still had my camera to download the underwater video from yesterday&#8217;s underwater pumpkin carving event, so I was camera-less on this dive.<\/p>\n<p>I buddied up with the famous Melvin Pasley.<\/p>\n<p>Logged Dive #360<br \/>\nTerranea Resort<br \/>\nRancho Palos Verdes, CA<\/p>\n<p>Dove with Melvin Pasley, founder of the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.disabledveteransscubaproject.org\/\" target=\"_new\"> Disabled Veterans SCUBA Project.<\/a><\/p>\n<p>In With: 2900 psi<br \/>\nOut With: 300 psi<br \/>\nMax depth: 60 feet<br \/>\nWaves: Pretty flat<br \/>\nVisibility: 25 feet<br \/>\nWater Temperature: About 56 degrees, I think<br \/>\nTotal Bottom Time: About 55 minutes<\/p>\n<p>The water felt colder than yesterday.<\/p>\n<p>Our group swam out to where Reverend Al believed the statue to be and submerged.<\/p>\n<p>We hung around that area for about 10 minutes;  I didn&#8217;t think we found the statue, but Al told me later, &#8220;We were right on it, you must have seen it.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>Well, I didn&#8217;t.<\/p>\n<p>All throughout my dive, my mask kept leaking and I kept clearing it &#8211; sort of annoying.<\/p>\n<p>I&#8217;m not bad on air, but nobody would classify me as a fish;  Melvin was diving with 20 more cubic feet of air than I had, so I worried about cutting his time short.<\/p>\n<p>We started to head for the cove when I had 2500 psi left.<\/p>\n<p>Visibility was really good &#8211; 25 feet, maybe more in some areas.<\/p>\n<p>We traveled through the kelp at a zero heading to 35 feet, then took a 30 degree heading to the cove.<\/p>\n<p>We came across a huge bat ray, large sun stars and a few potentially legal lobsters that were hiding in a reef, out of reach.<\/p>\n<p>After peaking once, to reaffirm my bearings home, I surface just outside the Cove with 300 psi;  Melvin had over 1200 psi left.<\/p>\n<p>I probably should have been paired up with someone who had an 80 cubic foot tank.<\/p>\n<p>Professional Debriefer Paul was on shore to document our easy exit.<\/p>\n<p>The debriefing was interesting with Melvin, Military Bob and Not New Chris &#8211; all of whom were either active or retired military.<\/p>\n<p>Melvin got back from a tour in Iraq, maybe a year ago or so, and said, &#8220;If you are one of the ones that go out on patrol, it isn&#8217;t if you are going to get blown up, but when.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;I saw a suicide bomber and a cement truck blow up&#8230; the guy that replaced me when I went home was killed two weeks later&#8230; some soldiers were blown up six times, all to get sent back on patrol.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;A lot of soldiers can&#8217;t drive from here to Las Vegas because once you get past Barstow, the terrain looks just like Iraq and brings back memories&#8230;&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>Veteran&#8217;s Day is coming and word has it that Not So New Chris will be deploying soon.<\/p>\n<p>Not to cheat anyone out of a visual for today, here is a video that Not So New Chris made of today&#8217;s dive&#8230;<\/p>\n<p><object width=\"400\" height=\"323\"><param name=\"movie\" value=\"http:\/\/www.youtube.com\/v\/gFqbos4yeM8&#038;hl=en&#038;fs=1&#038;\"><\/param><param name=\"allowFullScreen\" value=\"true\"><\/param><param name=\"allowscriptaccess\" value=\"always\"><\/param><embed src=\"http:\/\/www.youtube.com\/v\/gFqbos4yeM8&#038;hl=en&#038;fs=1&#038;\" type=\"application\/x-shockwave-flash\" allowscriptaccess=\"always\" allowfullscreen=\"true\" width=\"400\" height=\"323\"><\/embed><\/object><\/p>\n<p>To watch the video on YouTube, <a href=\"http:\/\/www.youtube.com\/watch?v=gFqbos4yeM8\" target=\"_new\">click here.<\/a><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>On the way to Terranea Resort, the water looked flat and dark &#8211; a good sign for great diving.
