{"id":1345,"date":"2008-07-12T23:28:39","date_gmt":"2008-07-13T06:28:39","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/psychosolodiver.com\/?p=1345"},"modified":"2008-07-13T07:02:49","modified_gmt":"2008-07-13T14:02:49","slug":"logged-scuba-dive-290-practice-deep-diving-at-veterans-park","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/psychosolodiver.com\/?p=1345","title":{"rendered":"Logged SCUBA Dive #290 &#8211; Practice Deep Diving At Veterans Park"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Veterans Park, Redondo Beach, CA<\/p>\n<p>Solo Diving<\/p>\n<p>In With: 3100 psi<br \/>\nOut With: 500 psi<br \/>\nMax depth: 105 feet<br \/>\nWaves: Flat as a lake, almost<br \/>\nVisibility: 15 feet and crystal clear until 85 feet, then a little murky.<br \/>\nWater Temperature: Cool, maybe 55<br \/>\nTotal Bottom Time: 35 minutes<\/p>\n<p>Having had to work really early in the morning at my real job, I arrived at Vets Park a little before 7 AM.<\/p>\n<p>There were no waves and reports of great visibility, so I quickly geared up and entered the water.<\/p>\n<p>Dolphins were seen swimming North, so I descended in 15 feet of water and swam East,\u00a0 hoping to spot a few.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/psychosolodiver.com\/wp-content\/pict0304yeeeeep.jpg\" alt=\"The edge of the canyon.\" \/><\/p>\n<p>The edge of the canyon;  it goes from 35 to 85 feet really quick.<\/p>\n<p>I went to 60 feet and headed South towards the &#8220;monument&#8221; or &#8220;blocks.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/psychosolodiver.com\/wp-content\/pict0306yeeeeep.jpg\" alt=\"A man eating crab.\" \/><\/p>\n<p>A man eating crab.<\/p>\n<p>There seemed to be less trash to look at on this dive.<\/p>\n<p>After not finding the monument, I decided that I should go deep;  after all, I need to find a purpose for this dive so I could feel some sort of accomplishment.<\/p>\n<p>So I headed West &#8212; I was feeling REALLY good.<\/p>\n<p>The Nitrogen Narcosis was getting me really buzzed, my brain pictured Tommy Chong singing a concert of &#8220;So Fine.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/psychosolodiver.com\/wp-content\/pict0313yeeeeep.jpg\" alt=\"This is what I look like when I\u2019m narced at 105 feet.\" \/><\/p>\n<p>This is what I look like when I&#8217;m narced at 105 feet.<\/p>\n<p>I turned around and became a little concerned when I kept kicking East and not getting any shallower.<\/p>\n<p>I thought, &#8220;I&#8217;m suppose to go East right? Maybe it is West?&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>Yep, I was narced.<\/p>\n<p>I&#8217;ve made that mistake so many times, but I forgot how far 105 feet is from the 85 foot slope off the canyon.<\/p>\n<p>I made it to shallower and warmer water at the top of the canyon.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/psychosolodiver.com\/wp-content\/pict0320yeeeeep.jpg\" alt=\"I ran in to THE cement bucket;  I was so excited!\" \/><\/p>\n<p>I ran in to THE cement bucket;  I was so excited!<\/p>\n<p>I did a slow swim towards shore,  combining my safety stop with the swim in.<\/p>\n<p>I made an uneventful exit as the water was really flat, but still managed to trip over the sand step that&#8217;s in one foot of water.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/psychosolodiver.com\/wp-content\/pict0324yeeeeep.jpg\" alt=\"Vets was flat today.\" \/><\/p>\n<p>This morning was ideal conditions for dive classes.<\/p>\n<p>After a Chelada and some conversation with other divers, I headed towards home.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Veterans Park, Redondo Beach, CA Solo Diving In With: 3100 psi Out With: 500 psi Max depth: 105 feet Waves: Flat as a lake, almost Visibility: 15 feet and crystal clear until 85 feet, then a little murky.
