Diving With Evil Jeff Off Of Long Point"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Long Point, CA<br \/>\n(aka The Old Marineland)<\/p>\n<p>Dove With Evil Jeff<\/p>\n<p>In With: 3000 psi<br \/>\nOut With: 400 psi<br \/>\nMax depth: 60 feet<br \/>\nWaves:  Minor Chop<br \/>\nVisibility: 10 feet<br \/>\nWater Temperature: Chilly<br \/>\nTotal Bottom Time: 65 minutes<\/p>\n<p>The small group of regular divers met at 8 AM;  Al later paired me with Evil Jeff.<\/p>\n<p>Al dropped, but skillfully recovered one of his fins in the surf zone.<\/p>\n<p>The seven of us made it through the surf zone, swam out and met around a lobster trap buoy.<\/p>\n<p><img ALT=\"The resort is under construction.\" SRC=\"http:\/\/psychosolodiver.com\/wp-content\/pict0065eft.jpg\" \/><\/p>\n<p><img ALT=\"We met around a lobster buoy.\" SRC=\"http:\/\/psychosolodiver.com\/wp-content\/pict0066eft.jpg\" \/><\/p>\n<p>I told Evil Jeff to lead and I&#8217;ll follow; we descended&#8230;<\/p>\n<p><img ALT=\"We landed right on top of the statue.\" SRC=\"http:\/\/psychosolodiver.com\/wp-content\/pict0068eft.jpg\" \/><\/p>\n<p>&#8230; and landed right on the statute that we were going to look for.<\/p>\n<p>We toured around the various points of interest, looking in lobster holes and admiring the scenery.<\/p>\n<p><img ALT=\"A nice Long Point reef.\" SRC=\"http:\/\/psychosolodiver.com\/wp-content\/pict0079frt.jpg\" \/><\/p>\n<p><img ALT=\"An abandoned lobster trap.\" SRC=\"http:\/\/psychosolodiver.com\/wp-content\/pict0084eft.jpg\" \/><\/p>\n<p>We came across an abandoned and rotting lobster trap.<\/p>\n<p><img ALT=\"Lobsters are fairly shallow again.\" SRC=\"http:\/\/psychosolodiver.com\/wp-content\/pict0087eft.jpg\" \/><\/p>\n<p>There were plenty of lobsters around and all hid safely out of reach.<\/p>\n<p>I&#8217;m glad they&#8217;re shallower now.<\/p>\n<p>Vis was 10 feet, but compared to my other dives lately, I wasn&#8217;t complaining.<\/p>\n<p><img ALT=\"A reef off of Long Point.\" SRC=\"http:\/\/psychosolodiver.com\/wp-content\/pict0088eft.jpg\" \/><\/p>\n<p><img ALT=\"A reef along Long Point.\" SRC=\"http:\/\/psychosolodiver.com\/wp-content\/pict0094eft.jpg\" \/><\/p>\n<p><img ALT=\"Evil Jeff inspects a reef.\" SRC=\"http:\/\/psychosolodiver.com\/wp-content\/pict0095eft.jpg\" \/><\/p>\n<p>When I was at 1500 psi, we started swimming towards the cove.<\/p>\n<p>When I was down to 500 psi, Evil Jeff handed me his auxiliary second stage; he had 1500 psi left.<\/p>\n<p>I thought to myself I must be really crappy on air consumption or Evil Jeff doesn&#8217;t breath; I later found out that his tank had 40 more cubic feet of air than my tank.<\/p>\n<p>We ran across Reverend Al and Dennis peaking into lobster holes.<\/p>\n<p>A heavy chain lies on the ocean floor&#8230;<\/p>\n<p><img ALT=\"A heavy chain lies on the ocean floor.\" SRC=\"http:\/\/psychosolodiver.com\/wp-content\/pict0102eft.jpg\" \/><\/p>\n<p>Jeff gave the signal to ascend; I put my reg back in my mouth and slowly swam to the surface.<\/p>\n<p>We were about 50 yards from the cove;  Jeff thought we were further.<\/p>\n<p>As we were surface swimming to the cove, a small boat slowly approached us within yelling distance.<\/p>\n<p>The guys yelled, &#8220;&#8230;our lobster traps&#8230; the DFG will be meeting you guys to see if you&#8217;ve been poaching our traps.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>Evil Jeff yelled back, &#8220;OK, that&#8217;s great.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>We exited the cove without incident.<\/p>\n<p>Dive Bum Don said that the guys in the boat were looking at us a ways away through binoculars and saw us descend near their lobster traps.<\/p>\n<p>We weren&#8217;t poaching, just using their buoy as a meeting spot.<\/p>\n<p>However, I do see their point, and these guys have been known to be mean to divers.<\/p>\n<p>Evil Jeff said that Bill surfaced above a lobster trap to a shotgun in his face.<\/p>\n<p>I&#8217;ve  been told by a lobster trapper that he used to carry bricks in the boat to drop on bubbles that were around his trap.<\/p>\n<p>We all walked back up as a group and debriefed.<\/p>\n<p><img ALT=\"An Ultralight passed over head - how cool!\" SRC=\"http:\/\/psychosolodiver.com\/wp-content\/pict0103eft.jpg\" \/><\/p>\n<p>A UFO disguised as an Ultralight passed overhead &#8211;
