{"id":2199,"date":"2012-01-01T23:38:34","date_gmt":"2012-01-02T06:38:34","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/psychosolodiver.com\/?p=2199"},"modified":"2012-01-03T18:34:52","modified_gmt":"2012-01-04T01:34:52","slug":"new-years-dive-and-debrief-happy-new-year-everyone","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"http:\/\/psychosolodiver.com\/?p=2199","title":{"rendered":"New Year&#8217;s Dive and Debrief &#8211; Happy New Year Everyone!"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Happy New Year!<\/p>\n<p>I woke up sort of late, from trying to sleep through the New Year&#8217;s gunshots in the Long Beach Ghetto.<\/p>\n<p>I arrived about 8:30 AM, and instead of taking a look at the conditions myself, I relied on the judgement of the experts.<\/p>\n<p>Apparently, it was a little surgy in The Cove and a little rough but &#8220;doable&#8221; at The Point.<\/p>\n<p>I decided to head off The Cove with Dennis G. and go right.<\/p>\n<p>Logged SCUBA Dive #399<\/p>\n<p>Dove with Dennis G.<br \/>\nTerranea Resort, Rancho Palos Verdes, CA USA<\/p>\n<p>In With: 3000 psi<br \/>\nOut With: 1000 psi<br \/>\nMax depth: 47 feet<br \/>\nWaves: Surgy in the surf zone<br \/>\nVisibility: 10 feet to shitty<br \/>\nWater Temperature: 54 degrees<br \/>\nAir Temperature: 74 degrees<br \/>\nTotal Bottom Time: 45 minutes<\/p>\n<p>The entrance was easy.<\/p>\n<p>I followed Dennis, surface swimming to about half way to The Point.<\/p>\n<p>I wondered why we didn&#8217;t enter off The Point, if we were going to swim all that way?<\/p>\n<p>We submerged in about 20 feet of water and swam for about 15 minutes in the direction of The Point, making it down to 47 feet at the deepest.<\/p>\n<p>Visibility was shit &#8211; 10 feet at the best, but I&#8217;ll take 10 feet over 5 feet, any day.<\/p>\n<p>The only decent picture that turned out was of Dennis&#8230;<\/p>\n<p><img src='http:\/\/psychosolodiver.com\/wp-content\/dennisg55yhbjk8.jpg' alt='Dennis G.' \/><\/p>\n<p>However, I must say, it was a nice, but green, dive!<\/p>\n<p>We turned back and made an uneventful exit at The Cove.<\/p>\n<p>We saw a few fisherman &#8211; they probably have no idea that this part of Palos Verdes is a fishing preserve.<\/p>\n<p>I&#8217;ve been trying to find out exactly where the fishing preserve begins and ends &#8211; from what  I&#8217;ve heard it&#8217;s from Point Fermin to the Light House at Palos Verdes.<\/p>\n<p>I&#8217;m not an environmental nazi, but having seen the fish decline over ten years of diving here, I can&#8217;t really object to the fishing ban.<\/p>\n<p>I haven&#8217;t even bothered to spear fish for the last several years here, because there&#8217;s nothing to shoot.<\/p>\n<p>Making it back to the parking lot, two dry divers inquired about the conditions &#8211; they each had lost one fin upon entry, while getting pounded at The Point.<\/p>\n<p>Apparently, some in the group made some pretty hairy entrances &#8211; I think Dennis had our dive plan right.<\/p>\n<p>And for all the bravery that it took to enter off The Point, the reward was visibility that  was worse than our dive &#8211; 8 feet was the report.<\/p>\n<p>I broke in our new ghetto grill by turning the heat all the way up, to burn off the Lead based Chinese paint.<\/p>\n<p>I filled the new grill with the old lava rocks from the previous ghetto grill, to keep the flavor consistent.<\/p>\n<p>Beer Brats, Beer, Jello Shots and a New Year&#8217;s Champagne toast ended the debriefing.<\/p>\n<p>May 2012 be a great year for everyone!<\/p>\n<p><iframe loading=\"lazy\" width=\"400\" height=\"233\" src=\"http:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/c9L_tctDi5o\" frameborder=\"0\" allowfullscreen><\/iframe><\/p>\n<p>To watch this video on YouTube, <a href=\"\"http:\/\/www.youtube.com\/watch?v=c9L_tctDi5o target=_new\"> click here.<\/a><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Happy New Year!
