Braille Dive At Long Point, Rancho Palos Verdes"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Long Point (aka The Old Marineland), Rancho Palos Verdes, California<\/p>\n<p>Dove With Reverend Al, SCJoe and John<\/p>\n<p>In With: 2900 psi<br \/>\nOut With: 1200 psi<br \/>\nMax depth: About 30 feet<br \/>\nWaves: Regular small swells, sort of mildly rough<br \/>\nVisibility: 0-5 feet<br \/>\nWater Temperature: 54 degrees<br \/>\nTotal Bottom Time: About 25 minutes<\/p>\n<p>To dive or not to dive?<\/p>\n<p>That was the question.<\/p>\n<p>Reverend Al, the crew and me sat for 25 minutes on the cliff looking at the swells, the surf and the overcast conditions.<\/p>\n<p>We were going to call it, until two chicks and Max Bottom Time said they were going to go for it.<\/p>\n<p>Yes, if everyone jumped off a bridge, I probably would, too.<\/p>\n<p>One of the chicks, &#8220;Angelshark&#8221; was spear fishing.<\/p>\n<p>She asked, &#8220;Which way are you going?&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;120 reef.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;Okay, we&#8217;re going the other way.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>I followed Reverend Al, SCJoe and John off the Cove.<\/p>\n<p>I think I might be a little overweighted with my really old wetsuit;  I sank like a brick until I inflated my BC.<\/p>\n<p>The group descended off the point at Pigeon Shit Cave and followed Reverend Al to 120 reef.<\/p>\n<p>Visibility sucked!<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/psychosolodiver.com\/wp-content\/pict0270ertert.jpg\" alt=\"Following fins in crappy visibility\" \/><\/p>\n<p>I followed fins, kept an eye on other divers and briefly scoped out the shadows of the reef&#8230;<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/psychosolodiver.com\/wp-content\/pict0272ertert.jpg\" alt=\"Crappy visibility\" \/><\/p>\n<p>&#8230;five feet at best.<\/p>\n<p>Previous to descending, I told Reverend Al, &#8220;If I wave you off, I&#8217;m telling you &#8216;bye,&#8217; so don&#8217;t worry about me.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/psychosolodiver.com\/wp-content\/pict0278ertert.jpg\" alt=\"Heading in in crappy conditions.\" \/><\/p>\n<p>Just as I was going to head in, Al turned towards the cove&#8230; we were heading in.<\/p>\n<p>In 15 feet of water, vis turned to zero;  I ascended and surface swam in.<\/p>\n<p>Everyone else was on the surface within two more minutes.<\/p>\n<p>I came ashore over the &#8220;easy&#8221; way out (so it was explained to me!) &#8211; no big rocks to lean on, but fairly flat, compared to other parts of the beach.<\/p>\n<p>The beach has changed so much here, I constantly have to rethink my exit strategy.<\/p>\n<p>Nick and his <a href=\"http:\/\/southbaysoliloquy.blogspot.com\/2008\/06\/sunburned-seasick-and-certified.html\" target=\"_new\">newly certified girlfriend Jill <\/a> were on shore watching our exits.<\/p>\n<p>Jill was apparently taking pictures of my exit &#8211; probably for her future reference of what a macho rock beach exit looks like.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/psychosolodiver.com\/wp-content\/pict0280ertert.jpg\" alt=\"Korean Barbecue!\" \/><\/p>\n<p>Now for the debriefing!<\/p>\n<p>We had an assortment of beer, Korean ribs, rice,  kim chi and pork something.<\/p>\n<p>This is probably why we didn&#8217;t call the dive earlier;
